I have been interested in Della for a while and have been speaking to her foster mum regularly. I had hoped to have her.
Now, there's no messing, but she has become possessive of people. If other dogs try to get some affection from you, she wants it all, so she goes for them.
I can't this with my Angel as she is so young - what a blow!
as with all things this is something that can be worked on --- she clings on to the 1st thing that gives her any attention but am sure with work it can be dealt with (I have had dogs here that would do similar but I worked on it from day 1) --- for anyone else who may be interested in her
Penny mentioned earlier that my Four Paws girlie Cassie has a very similar background to Della. She also had very similar problems once the honeymoon period (brief!) was over. But it was really quite simple to sort out. Basically, we banned all trigger points like the sofa for both our dogs and we simply didn't over fuss her. When she was good and calm, she was hugged and rewarded. When she had a tantrum, we turned our backs on her and got on with something else. And we made sure she had plenty of good, fun exercise so she was too tired to cut up rough for long. Millie (the other dog) took it all in her stride. We never, never, ever did anything to frighten Cassie or make her feel more insecure. The worst telling off she ever got was 'Daft dog' in a bored voice. It really didn't take long and today she is just a joy to live with.
When we have new dogs in the house she occasionally reverts but it only takes about 20 minutes to remind her of the facts of life.
I really wouldn't allow something like this to put you off if you are really keen and are prepared to rein yourself in for a few weeks. She sounds a lovely dog who deserves a decent life.
