Title: Young Working Cocker? boy :luv:
Post by: rose on August 21, 2006, 09:16:28 PM
 :luv: hello,
what a stunning boy !!!  :luv:
i have on foster with me a fab young boy who is looking for a new home to call his own.
his name is trivia (aka billy). he arrived with me about 1 week ago and is afabby guy. he was saved from the pound so unfortunatly no past history, but has settled very well with me  :luv:
he is 7/8 months old male. castrated and vacc. he is house trained and a good boy in the house.  he loves the crates we have and is very happy to share with the others. he has loads of energy and loves everything in life inc all the toys and my slippers
i really hope this boy gets his 4ever home he needs as he will make some one a wonderfull pet and also would be ideal for agility or flyball - he catches balls very well.
he is happy with all dogs male and female and has shown no bad signs with food or toys and just wants to play and please you hugleyyyyyyyy !!

Aw, he's gorgeous  :luv:

Has he been *tested* with children, does anyone know? He looks like a real *family* dog (and yes, I am very tempted to take him in if only I could convince OH) - but sometimes poundies come with baggage :(
Title: Re: young x boy :luv:
Post by: rose on August 21, 2006, 10:01:50 PM
:D hi there he doesnt come with much baggage  :luv: and he is an all round dog and would love to be with a family of his own  :D

he is just a high energy boy and loves to be with you  :luv: living in foster with me he is sharing with 3 others (2 of my own) and has shown no signs of dominence with food or toys, just wants to play and have a ball thrown or play tug with my girl  ;) and then curl up on his bed or with me
i have a 5 year old son who is used to all sorts of dogs in and out the house and he is fine, i just wouldnt recamend any little humans under that age due to he does jump up a little when he wants you or you have just come back in from being out. he has always slept through the nite here, but does have 3 other dogs for company, hence why i think he would be better with a play mate and another dog to show him the world. the only thing i wont do is let him off lead , but i am happy to try and find outside enclosed to find out his responce !!!!!!!
please feel free to email me with any further questions.
thanks rose x

Even if I could give a working cocker the type of life he would need, and I'm still not convinced - my OH has not threatened, but promised to leave if I bring another dog home  ph34r ph34r

i think you underestimate yourself there (rose describes billy/trivia like a 'jarvis' character to me which you could well handle!).....as for the oh, show him the picture....how can he resist that beautiful dog!?

*can't look at him anymore tonight  ph34r*

I thought I saw him on MT and it said he was a collie/cocker cross??

no history on him joules, he's a poundie so their guess is a cross because of his 'unusual' colouring

to me & penel he looks full working cocker - his shape fits, head, ears as well, fur/feathering is right  -  think he's a a blue roan and tan (we of course could be completely wrong!)

The thing about poundies is that its hard to know for sure - and anyway who CARES, hes gorgeous  :luv:

.....as for the oh, show him the picture....how can he resist that beautiful dog!?

He's just walked in from work - and successfully resisted  :'( He's not swayed by public opinion, either - he's the practical one and highlights all the disadvantages of two dogs :(

Well, I guess they don't see many dogs!!  :shades:  In the pic on the MT website he does look more lanky and collie-like though and his colouring is unusual for a cocker.

Sure Porridge wouldn't mind.  He would probably be a bit confused judging by his background if someone started putting ribbons and bobbles in his hair!!  ::) Obviously you would have to use a manly blue dye for him though :005: :005:

Looks like a blue and tan Working Cocker to me too. I guess MT mainly sees the show-type Cockers from puppy farms which is why they've assumed he's a cross as he looks a bit different to what they're used to seeing. Lovely boy though - he won't be waiting long for his new home :D

although i would dearly love to take this boy on my head must rule and i really can't at the moment -  we need to sort out our territorial *issue* between the new rescue dog next door and jarvis (which could be a slow process), and it wouldn't be fair on any of the dogs to take on another boy at this stage  :-\ :'( :'(

Much as I might be tempted to trade my OH for the gorgeous Trivia, I have to hope someone else will offer him a suitable home - for a number of other reasons I am unable to follow my heart on this one  :'(

I am sure such a gorgeous boy won't be waiting long - and hopefully, his new family will let us know how he is getting on  ;)

hi guys, well you argue away he is  :luv: :luv: :luv: lol
i am no pro on cockers but do know my dogs, i knew when i picked him up there was no collie in him as that is my breed, wasnt sure if he was full wk cocker though because of the tan colour and longer legs.

he is chilled once he has had his good spaite of exersise, but does love a good play with the rest of the residence and is happy to lead or be led.
tug with my collie girl with a squicky toy is the best

just to make you  :luv: ph34r even more

A lot of rescues won't rehome if there are existing entire dogs/bitches in the home - regardless of the gender of the rescue dog - it is seen as an indication of responsible dog ownership to neuter all dogs in the home (there was a big debate on DP about this recently  ph34r)

I'm not sure of MT policy - but many rescues do this and it seriously effects any hope I had of rescuing in the future :(

omg, he is so handsome, I would really love him but I cant have two dogs in a flat without direct access to a garden, even though the beach is across the road >:(  the flat is on the market cos we want a garden for archie but nothing yet, oh what a shame, the timing is completely wrong and archie would love a playmate :'(

We are going to get a 2nd dog when we move, as archie is male, what is best to get male or female?

ph34r ph34r ph34r i am not allowed another dog.jim says he is putting his foot down.he says over sixty quid in insurance a month is asking to much of a skinflint(him not me) and we are a little worried that ellie is showing some signs of a season already.
i have emailed rose with another forum she could post on about him.it's all about gundogs and hunting.
best of luck little man.

I have two boys and a girl.  They all get on famously!  :luv:

I got Sapphi first, then Max. They loved each other from the minute they met. The came Barney.  He's only five months now, but he and Max are inseperable. Max is neutered so I don't know if that makes a difference, but Max is still the boss. He has been since the day he arrived.  Some days I think Barney might be the boss eventually!

I know people who have all girls and I know people who have all boys and neither of them have any problems.  I originally got Max because I was told two bitches would fight.  Now I know people with two or more bitches and don't have any problems.

I don't think you can have a hard and fast rule, and it depends on the individual dogs. Sorry, that wasn't much help for you.  ::)

I really have fallen for him.... but dont think he is gonna still be available for when I move in..... (Oct)

Wanted to introduce a second dog to Poppy gradually as it maybe a bit too much for her moving into new house and a new dog on the scene.

But he looks just like her! just a different colouring!!

I think he and Alfie are just too close in age or I would seriously consider him as we didn't get our little Irish girlie  :'(

He's a little stunner and judging from what has been said about his temperament he and Alfie would get on like a house on fire, but that's my fear, that they'd get on too well and all my training would go to pot  :-\

AAAAAAAARRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!

So very tempted now we are starting to look for a playmate for Jasper, He is just the colour my daughter would like and about the age, can't take a puppy as work part time and don't want to start with house training etc.

Jasper is now 14 months and not sure whether a dog or a bitch might be better.  We've mentioned we are looking to a couple of breeders.

The only reason not followed up Billy was the original Many tears entry that part Collie and looks quite tall.

Any dog entring this household has to cope with a slightly erratic 11 yr old with autism, daughter who likes to carry them around, a cat, a rabbit and of course Jasper.  It also has to cope with being left a few hours a day, 3 days a week.

Jasper not done any formal training as yet and so I suppose they could train together.

We have only owned J about 6 months but he does seem well settled and chewing stopped, are we looking to soon or go for it before he gets too set!!

Soooooo tempted, even the OH keeps having a peep at the thread.........

And Wiltshires not so far from Worcestershire........

It's practically impossible to successfully train two young dogs together which is the main reason why I don't think I could take this boy. They tend to distract each other, feed off each other and if one or the other has bad habits then the other one will pick up on them. People who take on littermates or young dogs of a similar age usually have to walk and train them separately until they are both fully trained  :-\

:D hi again guys, he is tall for a working cocker, he is defo not collie but poss a touch of welsh springer as they are leaner than the english ! i have had someone come to see him who has had and known the breed for over 20years ! billy is interested in cats that run but a doggy safe cat wouldnt be to much of a prob so long as they told him who would be boss. he would be distracted by bunnies and small furries i`m afraid .
as for other dogs, he really doesnt care who they are, if they are laid back he says ok fine i wont bother you too much , but anything up for a good game will be there for hours !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he is fabby, just needs the right home and direction/training and something to do i.e flyball, agility etc or just plain obediance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he will make someone a fab dog but initially it will be hard work for a short time. he does some basics here to fit in with house rules but i am not imprinting anything on him as i dont want him to get confussed with a new owner who will have him for life xxxxxxxx

lol rose xxxxxxxx
please email me if you want to talk about him and i will email you my number  :luv:
