My old dog had kidney failure and it was for a while managed with diet and meds ..so does depend how far advanced it is...hopefully the vet will give you a better idea of what can be done for her.... also agree with Joules my vets have someone there 24 hrs ..normally 2 vets and 2 nurses...it is one of the reasons i stay with them.
my thoughts are with you  :luv:

" vets and 2 nurses, 24/7? Is it a specialised accident and emergency unit?

Yes it is  ;) its a normal vets in the day and at night is an emergency unit with the specialised price list to go with it  ::)

So sorry to hear you news.
It is a very difficult time for you.
I don't know it dogs can be treated the same as cats but our cat was diagnosed with kidney failure 2 years ago and has been treated with medication and diet. She is just on medication now and is suprising us all.

So sorry to hear about Chloe.  My old labrador went down hill quite slowly, so slowly that I never really noticed, until she got quite poorly and she was diagnoised with Acute on Chronic Renal Failure and we sadly had to make the decision to have her pts.  I know that there are special diets and drugs that can manage renal failure.

Our thoughs are with you.

I am so sorry that Cleo is poorly, we have fingers, paws, everything crossed here that she gets over this.  Thinking of you, I know it is so hard.

Our vets have someone there 24 hours.  The surgery has a flat above so even if there are no animals in overnight, there is always a nurse there in case an emergency comes in during the night.  It did help when my last cocker, Sophie, was very poorly and had to stay there that there was someone with her all the time.
I remember looking at her chart which was attached to her cage and there were entries on it for each hour through the night and day.

Really hoping and praying that Cleo gets over this.  I know what you are going through and my heart goes out to you

Sorry to hear Chloe is poorly - I hope the fluids make her feel better.

My old boy was put on a drip for liver problems and I took him home every night. I just put a plug in his drip line in the evening and re-attached it when I went in in the morning. Because he wasn't getting the fluids overnight, the vet treating him wanted him to have a couple extra days on it just to compensate.  It's not the norm but can be done.
