Title: Exactly what tests should I look for when buying a pupster? And why?

This thread gives more information on the health testing that should be carried out - http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?topic=63629.0

It's not generally the puppies that are tested though, it's the parents so that they don't pass on any genetic diseases to any pups they give birth to or sire. Litter testing is possible but it's the tests the parents have had that you need to ask about - also bearing in mind that a lot of, if not most, good breeders do not own both the sire and dam of a litter but you can ask the bitch owner for details of the stud dog they used.

Thankyou- I didnt think oxygen was right!
I will read up and ask the questions!
I asked one chap and he got back to me and said the pup was sold!- A warning I think- even had his own website!

I only say that because he was not keen to tell me about the tests.

If he wasn't forthcoming with info, i imagine it would be because no health tests have been carried out.  Personally, i would walk away.  ;)

I also look for pups bred for sound temperment. Please make sure you meet mum and are happy that shes a happy and friendly mother. The pups learn alot in those first 8 weeks.
