Anyone got an alternative to chemical flea treatment
« on: December 10, 2007, 07:39:00 PM »
I loath to use frontline combo but as we are in an area with sheep and deer ticks I feel I have to.
Has anyone got an alternative?

Garlic is supposed to keep fleas at bay, but not sure about ticks....
Good luck.

I have never used a flea treatment on Coco - she has garlic in her food and I think that helps a lot - she has never had fleas or a tick.  :D  Having said that I don't think ticks are particularly prevalent where I am as I have only seen a couple on one of my cats in 2 years  ;)  I prefer only to treat if I see a flea and ticks I would just pull out as and when.  Not sure what I would do in a highly infested area though but garlic in the food might do some good.  ;)

I would like to start giving garlic to Ellie.  Do you use garlic pearls or powdered garlic or any other kinds and how much do you give per day.

I use fresh garlic when I make a batch of livercake or tunabread - I just add a couple of cloves to the mix.  Also when I whizz up the veg for her BARF meals I put some garlic in there too.  I sometimes use the powder too which is very convenient to use.  I don't give a set amount but she probably gets in in some form every few days  ;)  I also have a recipe for garlic doggy treats but I haven't made them yet.  ph34r

Thanks Joules, Ellie has had her first taste of garlic today.
