We are seriously considering a cocker to fill the gap left by our 13 year old golden retriever who we lost last year. Hope to find lots of tips on this site. Not sure if we prefer an adult dog or a pup. Maybe depends on what we can get.

Hi Sams,

Welcome to Cockersonline.  If you are interested in finding out about cockers, then you have come to the right place!  I have found this site invaluable both before and after our first cocker came to us 7 months ago.  We thought long and hard about the right dog for us before taking the plunge (I've previously had springers) and I can't tell you how delighted we are with our cocker.  Cockers are fabulous dogs and if you decide to take one into your family, I am sure you will have lots of laughs!  A word of warning though - people warned me that once you have one, you crave another (a bit like chocolates!) and it's true!  It will be a while before we can have another, as Tilly is still a pup, but I am already fantasising about the next one!

Thanks for all the welcome posts. :D

Since adult cockers seem to be as rare as hens teeth we have almost decided to go for a puppy. This also gives us the option to show or breed   (we probably never will do either but it's good to have the option).

Welcome aboard Sams - good luck with your search, any idea which type (i.e. solid or roan) and which colour you might go for?

Hi Mike

Thanks for the welcome.

We have arranged to have a look at a black 4 week old puppy this weekend. We have said that we won't make up our minds until we have had a look but once you look that's it  no contest.

The puppy will be ready to leave its mother at the end of February. This gives us time to get things ready.

It's 13 years since we had a pup and will need some time to look at crates, bedding etc. so this site is a lot of help in that regard. :D

Regards

Sam
