My darling Hollie is 11 and was diagnosed with aggressive cancer in July 2012; 6 wks later I lost my lovely Cher (aged 6) to advanced liver disease (10 days after diagnosis -so quick). A double whammy for me and had 2 nasty bouts of shingles after. Life was feeling better, Hollie has kept brilliant since then and been a big comfort.  Suddenly she is suffering from heart disease/fluid on the lungs; on medication but the vet can't rule out cancer in her lungs and not keen to do x;-rays, etc due to heart problems. I am heart-broken (again); my feisty girl is so subdued, doesn't seem in any pain but so sad. Please say a prayer for her this morning. xx

Oh my goodness Annclare, I have only just picked up your posts, and I am so very very sorry to hear that you have lost your darling Holly.   I feel for you enormously as my OH and I lost our lovely Millie (aged 11) 5 weeks ago tomorrow, again to cancer (Osteosarcoma) in her lower jaw.   We were devastated, and cannot talk about Millie without tears, so I do know how you must be feeling and my heart goes out to you.

Thank you for all your kind messages. I know there are a lot of people out there thinking of me and the pain I'm experiencing, having been through it themselves. Obviously I've not slept and am missing the presence of a cocker in my life so much. It's a long time since I was completely cocker-less and although having one there doesn't stop the grieving, it does keep you in your routine. I feel as if I've lost a limb. xx

No-one to talk to,no-one to walk with, don't want to go out as I can't bear to come back and not see a cocker on the window sill waiting for me. Am I brave enough to go for my 9th cocker? I think I know what the answer has to be. x

Only you can decide if and when you will have another.  :-\

Some people get one straight away, some wait a few years.  If it were me, I am pretty sure I would get another as soon as I could - can't imagine not having a doggy companion.   :'(  So many lovely dogs in rescue at the moment just waiting for a loving home  .............

So sorry for your heartbreaking loss. If there is one thing that losing a pet teaches us, it is that he/she gave so much love that we can open our hearts to another. It is not replacing a loved pet, it is just a continuation of that love.

Seventeen days since I lost Hollie and the tears still flow all day and every day. My cousin in America has persuaded me to book a flight to visit her so in three weeks time I'll be on my way. My two cousins over there are both in their eighties and who knows if I'll get to see them again so I'll put on a face and go. It won't be easy - and when I come back 2 weeks later I shall start my quest for two new cockers - which also won't be easy. All I want is my Hollie back but I know that can't be and I know it is what she would want me to do. Please say a prayer for me in my 'journeys' and I'll keep you posted.

I know it hurts so very much but I think you are doing the right thing.  A holiday is a good idea and then the start of a new adventure on your return. It won't stop you grieving but it will lead you forward. In time it will be easier to think of your beautiful Hollie and the joy she gave you. Travel safely and let us know how your search goes.

What an awful time for you.  I hope you can be brave and accept the kind invitation from your cousin.  When you come home you may feel you can open your heart to another cocker, who I'm sure would start to heal your heartbreak.  I know we all feel your pain.   :bigarmhug:
