Sorry, another BARF thread ...
« on: May 07, 2007, 11:39:40 AM »
Ive recently started to give Megan raw chicken wings & lamb breast.  Once she figured out what to do with them, she loves it.

I do have trouble though as the chicken wings & lamb breast do not last very long in the fridge.  I did freeze some chicken wings last time.  I have now defrosted them in the fridge but I am too scared to give them to her.  Are they ok to freeze first?  How lnng do they last in the freezer?

Also can I give her sardines?

Any advice woul dbe much appreciated :)

I would emphasize that I am not very experienced with  BARF feeding but I have frozen chicken wings, defrosted them & fed them to the dogs so far with no ill effects.

I've kept them in the freezer for up to 4 weeks, again with no ill effects.

I have also given the dogs sardines; usually the ones in tomato sauce & the dogs really love them.

I must admit I keep lamb breast & bones from the butcher in the fridge for up to about 5-6 days & they seem to be alright.

Sorry I'm not very scientific about it!! ;)

Freezing them is totally fine, no probs at all, so long as you don't defrost them in the microwave as that can make the bones brittle.

Sardines are great, pilchards, tuna.

I freeze all my meat, bag it into portions and defrost overnight ready for breakfast.
