autarky
« on: May 15, 2007, 07:23:48 PM »
..just read on the 'tooth spray' topic a good comment about Autarky.

I had a look on the net and the first thing I found said its for 'working' dogs ...but their own website doesnt seem to say that   My two are currently on Burns ..but their coats are a bit dull and their breath is a bit pongy even though I clean their teeth  ::) and I was just wondering about whether changing food would help.

The ingredients in Autarky sound really nice ...also I note the mature lite (which they say is suitable for dogs prone to weight gain) has glucosomine in it which I  thought might help Daisy ....and not that price such a consideration its much cheaper than Burns too  :o

.....do  you think it is just for working dogs...what do you think of it ?

No I used it for mine for a while and apart from Vegas, they did really well on it and they are certainly not as active as working dogs  ;)

it's a good food, and as it's sold as a 'working dog' food they don't have to charge VAT on it...so it's a good price too ;)

Tilly is on Autarky Summer Blend, she is a working dog but I would think it's fine for all dogs. It's an excellent food and she loves it and looks great on it. It's holistic with no additives and contains linseed, aloe, fenugreek, kelp and rosemary amongst other herbs; her teeth and coat (now that the fuzz is gone!) look fab, her poos are good and she maintains an excellent weight. All in all I'd highly recommend it. I pay just over £11 for a 15kg bag in Costco  :shades:

I feed both mine Autarky and they do wonderfully on it.

Lucy is as far removed from working dogs as you can get, :005: and its even great for her. She has a really sensitive stomach and this is the only food she's fine on all the time. Her coat's alot softer and shinier than when she was on JWB too. Jarvis had consistantly squidgy poos on JWB and is lovely and firm on Autarky.

Me too! I pay £15 for 15kg, it's still a good price when you look at other brands. :o

I wish I had heard of this.  I just changed Holly and Kali on to the Arden Grange Lamb and Rice for their dodgy tums.  Mind you, to be fair, they are doing really well on it so I don't want to change them again.  Even if it is really hard to get hold of up here!

If I had known you were looking into it Colin could have brought some for you to try!

Jaspers very fussy what he eats but is quite happy with Autarky although both boys have a raw feed diet I do add a little to ensure I can fall back on easy food if we can't do meat sometime.

Jaspers def not a working dog, Louie does use more energy. ;)

Another Autarky user here.  Unfortunately Bailey can't eat it due to his diabetes but Einstein loves it and his poos are nice and firm!

I also get it from Costco for approx £11 per sack, this saves me about £5 a bag so its good value and seems good quality as well.  I know you shouldn't but he usually gets some of our left overs to mix with it (as long as we haven't had chilli or curry!)

I wish I could find it at £11 a sack!  I buy mine from Jollyes and it's just over £15.  A sack does last a few months though, so it's not too expensive.  My two have the green (Summer Years) Autarky. I tried the brown (Autumn Years) when I had Bess, but she didn't like it.  She would eat the green, but not the brown.
