Title: Chicken Wings - Part 2
Post by: Gilly on October 22, 2003, 11:20:43 PM
Ok i'm starting a new thread about chicken wings for anyone who is interested ;)
Today I had success and Butty has eaten 2 chicken wings, on the link Jane gave on the other thread it said that you could LIGHTLY brown the wings to release a bit of flavour. Obviously this doesn't by any means mean cooking them...i put them under for less than a minute each side just enough for it to release a small amount of fat from the skin. Well at 1st she licked it to death, then she picked it up and ran into her bed with it  :o...i could then hear her crunching it and at 1st was slighlty worried. But there was no need withing a couple of minutes she's scoffed the lot and then had a mad fit by running around the living room and then rubbing her chops all over the carpet  :o ;D (Good job my hubby wasn't home  ;)) then i gave her number 2 and she ran under the dining room table and it was gone within a couple of minutes. She really seemed to enjoy them so will keep going with them i think.
I weighed her today and she weighs roughly 20lbs...so will let you all know if these add any weight onto her  ;) :)

Great!  Sounds like they're a hit after all Gilly  :D

:o 20lb - She really is dainty, isn't she.   What height is she?   I had to weigh Morgan for his wormer last week and he was 28lb!  Have to say that Button's has a lovely glossy coat and looks very healthy  :D

Yes she is dainty Shirley....i'd be happy if she was about 23lbs - ish she's only about 141/2 inches so on the small side anyway  ;)

Yippeeeee go Butty go

My mum said you'd like the chicken wings once you got the taste of them. My mum keeps forgetting to give me some though. I think I'll have to lick her more ;D

Excellent news Gilly ;D I’m so pleased to hear that Butty is now tucking into her wings  ;D

Douglas weighs around 28lbs which is so much better than his 25lbs that he weighed before his wings …..

She did go through a really picky phase and would hardly touch a thing....her life now revolves round food again ::)

Must admit, prefer her like this than picky although it can be extremely irratating at times too ;)

She's fairly tall though so I think she is is proportion ;)

Well Done Butty-Bop - I knew she'd get it in the end!  ;D
I really hope this is the answer to her putting on a few pounds for you Gilly - but even if it's not - at least she's enjoying her daily treat ;)

Just out of interest, Do you feed the chicken wings in place of a regular meal or just as an in-between snack?

Hiya Tricia I've been feeding them as a mid afternoon snack about 2.30pm-ish so I haven't changed any of her other meals  :)

I remembered to pick some up this morning but I needn't have bothered ::) Its like pass the chicken wing ;) I used Gilly's tip for Brooks one but he just sniffed, had a wee lick and walked off. Meanwhile Dallas is sitting on the cushion just looking at his. So Vegas(who is happily crunching away on his) gets Dallas's one and Dallas gets Brook's one - he only picks it up when Vegas wanders over but he is having a half-hearted attempt at eating it ::)

Edited to add that Dallas has just got up to get a drink and Vegas has just nicked it ;D

Rigsby had his first chicken wing on Friday - spent most of the day barking at it, carrying it everywhere (even in and out of the garden!), burying it in his bed - finally ate it when it was nice and covered in mud, leaves and carpet fluff ::).

By the way, Gilly, he ate it behind one of the sofas!

Saturday was slightly better, took it up the garden, buried it, dug it up at tea time, brought it in and ate it behind the sofa again!

Thats progress then Gerry  ;)
It has taken Butty a few days to get into the swing of them...although I'm not too keen on her dragging them all over my carpet  :-X Luckily she has taken to hiding behind the kitchen door to eat them which i don't mind, except I'm just about to spoil her plan by having a sliding door put in  ::) ;D
Keep going with them tho and let me know his progress

I know this subject has been discussed to death on here, but I couldn't see anywhere whether these should only be given to adult dogs, or whether my 14week puppy could enjoy one?
