Bayley Update
« on: February 09, 2006, 04:50:05 PM »
Thought you might like an update on the little black working cocker I adopted last week.
Well, nearly a week in and Bayley has made himself at home.
The little lad has had quite a week
We have had mass bone burrying sessions, big plays with Doug, which is fab as I've never seen Doug interact in that way with Oliver and lots of lead training.
It's early days but I've seen improvement already.
He seems an indipendant little soul, but also sociable with it as he does love to suggle and snooze when things are quiet.
He loves Kongs, we bought him one on Sunday and stuffed it with cream cheese and kibble and it kept him busy for ages.
Once he'd finished his he gathered up Doug and Ollie's as well and sat there looking rather proud of himself next to three Kongs.
We took him to the vet on monday and he was ever so good, especialy as the lad had to endure a booster, rabies jab and a microchip all in one visit.
So all in all he is fitting in well and he is making some good progress with his manners and training.

That's great news Mark :D I'm sure Bayley will come on in leaps & bounds with the attention you can give him :) He didn't do any burying when he was here - plenty of digging up though as he found various balls and things we thought were long gone

PS You're going to have to change that username or Bayley will sulk ;)

I Just need to find the time Jane as all I seem to do is train dogs at the mo.
If it's not one of my 3 it's someone elses :D
Seriously though i have seen some improvement in him. :D
When I first started doing lead training with him it was one step forward for about 4 back and it's probably one step forward to two steps back today. <_<
He is easy to train with food but I find he is overstimulated with a toy and can't concentrate at the job at hand if he can see it.
Still toy motivation is great for play and retrieve.
he seems already to have a good leave and the jumping up seems to becoming more infrequent.
I put him on his lead when it comes to tea time to stop him jumping for the food and have been trying to teach him a relaxed down to instill some self control.
I have also worked on him sitting and waiting to go out the door and he seems to be getting the hang of this too.
His paws are going now, I wonder what he's dreaming about?
Pheasants and rabbits maybe? or maybe just another one of those stuffed kong thingies. :P
I'm off work tomorrow so I'll try and get some more pics for you all
ps How do I change my username I can't seem to suss it? sorry I' must be having a jelly brain episode tonight.

He's a sweetie Nic.
with for the most part a lovely nature.
To say what he's been through I've seen dogs with a lot more mental scarring than he appears to have.
