Brand new puppy
« on: February 22, 2004, 01:56:32 PM »
At last!!!  :D  :D after nearly a month waiting we got our brand new, nearly 8 weeks old, solid black, female cocker puppy yesterday afternoon

. She had a two hour car trip to get home and slept the whole journey then about 5 minutes from home there was a wee bit of car sickness. :)

She went to her bed at about midnight and got me up at 03.30 ( I think this is half past stupid) and the again about 06:30. This is a lot better than I expected. :D  :D  She is eating ok and seems to be well settled in her bed in a crate in a playpen   ( Honest )

Hope it lasts.
Any tips on how to clean ears after eating would be appreciated

Forgot to say her name is Tara to reflect our Irish background and she's as black as tar.

Oh how lovely... I like the name Tara, I hope you all have many years of fun together. I love the blacks, they have such lovely coats which have a real shine to them. I remember with Alfie the first few weeks were a bit hard going as he is such a cry baby and in the end he sleeps in our room in his crate.    (I always said I would never do this.)
Good luck.

Forgot to put on the last reply.

You can either wait until they dry and then brush the offending bits out. I used to have to do this with Alfie when he had his scrambled eggs in the mornings.
or
Make or buy a snood ( a piece of material sewn into a tube shape) and put this on their ears while their eating, it saves alot of trouble.

Hi Sams

It's good to hear that Tara is settling in well.  I like the name  :)

Do you have a Spaniel Bowl?  At the moment it probably won't make much of a difference but as she gets bigger this type of bowl will allow her to eat her food while keeping her ears on the outside of the bowl.

Morgan prefers his food dry so they don't generally get full of food, but occasionally he'll get a treat of some yoghurt or something and he'll be covered       I use baby wipes to freshen them up a bit.

Have fun with Tara.

Oh great news!!!!

Sounds like you're doing pretty well so far!! Aren't they just gorgeous!!!!!!!

Charlie-Spud is now 11mths and has in that last few months - due to rain, mud, puddles & other smelly things! - started wearing a snood out on his walks! He's got on fine with it. Really helps with bad ear days!!!
Charlie-Spud 'ere, oh and this little fella Frisbee!

Tara sounds lovely sams and well behaved too (so far)
Maggie loves rusks for her supper and has crusty ears when they dry. l give them a quick brush an freshen up with baby wipes.
Have fun!!

What a lovely name! I hope she settles in well.
We've got a blue roan cocker spaniel and they really grow fast!
Have a lot of fun with Tara,

Finally managed to get Tara to stay still long enough to get a couple of photos.
 8)
They are not very good. It's hard to get a good photo of a black pup on a sunny day but I've posted two on the puppy gallery.

She is settling in well. :D  :D  Hope it lasts
