Title: Hello from Kansas!

Good morning! I'm new to the boards.  B)

My name is MaKenna and I live in Kansas with, among four other dogs, my 3 year old Cocker Spaniel (mix?) named Chisum.

Chisum is a very sweet dog and incredibly loving, but he struggles with pretty severe anxiety and is very reactive, particularly to strangers. He's not a biter (thankfully), just a barker! He was a rescue and came from a hoarder and I'm pretty sure all of the dogs had some pretty serious issues, but I love him all the same. We are constantly working on new techniques to try and manage his anxiety and we have an appointment in the city next month to discuss his medications.

Thanks for letting me join! My mother had an American Cocker when I was younger that she loved to bits. I never really thought of myself as a Cocker person, yet I ended up with Chisum.  :005: I'm not sure that I'll have another, but we'll see - he's dang cute.

I have a nervous cocker too. Laurië had a ton of anxiety related issues when I got her. It took time and a lot of training to get her past most of the issues. But it was soo worth it :003: She still has a few issues that I need to work around occasionally, but mostly she is just a happy cocker now. Feel free to ask if you have any questions, I am far from an expert but I am always happy to share my experiences and what worked for us.

Aw your boy looks like a sweet little
worker to me...not sure if you know but
here we have show type cockers and working
cockers(wcs)...they are different but all cockers :luv:

One of my cockers can be reactive too and finds it hard in new situations, you'll get lots of advice and support on here - I know I did ;)

Hi and welcome!! Nice to be able to welcome a second member from America within a week!
Chism is beautiful! You'll get plent of support and advice on here, there are quite a few members with rescue dogs, some of which have similar issues, so they have a wealth of experience which they'll be willing to share with you!

Open spaces, water and mud. I think that all looks like cocker heaven.

From having looked after my share of rescues I think you have to just accept them as they are and let them move forward at their own speed.

From the pictures he is very loved and very happy.

Chisum looks like he's lucked out in having you as his servants.

What a happy little chap he looks.....especially in the last three pics where he's nicely drenched in water.  As the previous poster commented,  it looks like he's in cocker heaven.

Funnily enough, he didn't take to water very easily and isn't much of a "water dog", but he loves to wade in the shallows and stick his snout in the mud.  :005: If he's happy, I'm happy! We both just love to be outside.

Hello to you in Kansas, Chisum  looks a lovely little Guy, my cocker was a rescue too, and they can come along with some baggage, but my Ollie is best friends, glad you found us
