Title: Giardia
Post by: bessymate4eva on July 15, 2017, 01:45:10 PM
So lucy got diagnosed with giardia by the vet she has started medication for it. What can I do to stop her or chester getting reinfected again? Ive been making sure to clean up her poo on the lawn its a little bit difficult with it being so loose. Ive heard about using bleach and water but really  dont want to be putting bleach on the lawn. Would boiling water work?

Is it? I always thought that any antiseptic that turns cloudy, which Zoflora does, when mixed with water is not advisable with pets?

I'd use dilute hibiscrub then rinse the area of lawn.

Take great care with Giardia - ideally best not to have other pets around at the same time.  Minnie came home with it and promptly infected the other two cats.....that's before Pearl arrived.  Minnie is now 10 year old!

Many Tears use it at their kennels, so I imagine it is ok?

From the above link.....

"While Zoflora does go cloudy in water, this is down to the fragrance oils being insoluble in water and is not due to the product containing phenol. As a result, Zoflora disinfectant is safe to use around most pets when used correctly."

I wasn't aware that cloudy = unsafe to use round pets (but not in this case!) so thanks Pearly (and COL)  for another bit of useful info to tuck into the memory banks.
