Title: oily fish and supplements
Post by: suzysu on June 10, 2007, 01:39:26 PM
I am often reading that lots of you give your cockers fish like sardines and pilchards...do you just buy the tins, or the actual fish ?

Also do you feed any supplements and do you find they make a difference?

I just buy tins of sardines in oil for the dogs and they love it.

Oscar has sardines, pilchards, mackeral and tuna all in oil or sometimes tomato sauce) and is in the kitchen waiting before the tin opener has finished! :005: His absolute favourites!

I buy sardines in tomato sauce for my two, they love them but I don't - they stink!  :P

I buy tins of sardines, mackeral or pilchards in oil. Tried in tomatoe sauce and whilst they loved it, it upset Woody's tummy  ::)

Paddy gets both sardines and mackerels but I give him the ones in sunflower oil, to up the essential fatty acid intake.  He doesn't really like them and really dislikes the ones in tomato sauce but tough luck - he needs to eat them!  I also supplement about 4 or 5 days a week with 1000 mg of fish oil (fish body oil, not cod liver oil) plus 100 i.u. capsules of Vitamin E Oil - they work in harmony to maximise absorption and feeding one without the other can cause a deficiency.
