Title: season advise.

i have a beautiful solid chocolate bitch.and want some advise,she is 8 months old,and started her season on 22nd june ,she has only bleed 5 day's ,and is swollen still below,is this normal or not,plus she has gone off her food,plus she has started to rip up newspaper and her bed.?any help greatly appiciated. :oops: how long do thier season last.

Usually 3 weeks, tterrii.
The coloured discharge varies from bitch to bitch - my gold bitch bleeds for almost the whole 3 weeks, yet is ready to mate on day 11.

thanks for rplying,as its her first season,is it usual to bleed for such a short while,is this normal or is there a problem,as the books i have read ,the bitch bleeds for a number of days.

IMO there is no "normal" each bitch is different.
But you should still be care for the full 3 weeks & sometimes longer !!!

First seasons can sometimes be lighter than subsequent seasons.
I don't think there is a problem, just the way it is this time. I have a girl who bled for 3 days, she was swollen as you would expect. She was mated and had a lovely litter, so I don't think you need to worry.
You must be careful not to leave her unattended in the garden, and keep her on the lead when walking her.
