Maisie and Tia are also on DogLost now

The registration number of a van seen in the area has been reported to police and is a registration known by DogLost as having been implicated in other dog thefts >:D

Archie came from this area. His breeder is very worried. It can't be helpful to be publishing values in the national press can it?
Really hope the dogs are found and the thieves get what they deserve.  >:D

3 topics started on same subject, now all merged with gentle reminder for those starting a new topic to do a quick check and make sure there isn't already an existing one (or two ph34r) on the same subject :D

How harrowing for the owners and the poor dogs.

Especially when the prices are ridiculous, too. I've never heard of a cocker for sale for £1,500 (perhaps maybe Harrods, but that doesn't count!). The story uses that headline to shock, and is a great example of very lazy journalism (not uncommon in that publication). Very unhelpful.

I wouldn't be suprised if most, if not all of the dogs stolen are working gundogs. The above price would be in line with a trained working gundog  :D

It is annoying when the press try to make something seem more valuable!
When I had two tortoises that went missing and I had to ask the newspapers  not to inflate the value of them because it encouraged more thefts!

I was also not allowed to offer a reward for their return for the same reason.

They suddenly reappeared back into the garden after it was published that there was a 5 year prison sentence if they were found selling them on!!

Hope these all become too hot to handle too!

Pat

I had no idea that there was a market in selling trained adult working dogs. I still really don't think that the newspapers should have included the value. (I looked on google and it seems the story came from a local newspaper first (including the value), and was re-reported by the Mail - still, the Mail is obsessed with putting a monetary value on everything). As Pat says, it just encourages more people to do it if they advertise how much the dogs are worth! Given that they've valued one at £1,500 and the other two at (only) £600, then presumably the thieves will be more interested in selling the more expensive one on...

No the prices are not ridiculous - the price for a fully trained working cocker with a good pedigree is on average £1500 to £2000....

A friend of mine had a working cocker bitch stolen (to order rumour has it) 3 years ago in Hampshire - her value was £2000 - she was field trial quality and was never found  :'(
