hello
« on: February 15, 2017, 04:53:36 PM »
Hello, just joined the forum.
My name is Ian and I have a 2-1/2 year old working cocker bitch.
She is my first dog and I have trained her primarily for beating.
Look forward to future discussions as from what I have read so far you seem a friendly bunch :)

Ps
JeffD brought the forum to my attention, so blame him :)

Hi Ian and welcome! Yes, this is a great place for getting advice, support, a sounding post if you just feel like a rant now and again or just need cheering up!
I'm Jayne, live in Germany and have a show type cocker called Humphrey who's just over 18 months, COL has been a lifeline for me, cockers are a bit of a rarerity here and people just don't "understand" ;) what its like!! :005: :005: If I hadn't have had the support of people on here I think I'd have been taken away by now!!
WHat's your girl's name? We also loooove pictures!!

Hello from me and the ginger ninja (aka Gemma red working girl)  She is almost 6 and we have trained her ourselves to join us on the beating line. She is our first WCS  and I do not think we did a bad job with her.
Look forward to hearing her stories and  remember this   Give them enough rope and they will hang you  :012: or make you jump off the stool yourself

Hi MIN.
Again thank you for warm welcome.
Yes they are a handful aren't they but we have got through two working seasons on two shoots without doing any damage as in not ruined any drives. Lol.
Neither myself or my wife have ever had a dog before so its been challenging to say the least. Lol

We worried and still do about her having a rush of air through the ears and dashing through the cover right to the end and back. But when you see what some other dogs do  :fear2: you realize that you have no need to worry.
We have been on some shoots where we are asked to keep dogs on lead until half way through. We have struggled on with Gemma pulling like a train until half way and looked up to find someone has let theirs off and it has shot off through the cover and is 2 fields away  ph34r

Thanks MIN, don't know what went wrong there. Lol

Yes same here, I thought we would be rubbish but it turns out that she has been one of the best there. Same problem with pulling, if I bottle it and pop a lead on if there are large numbers of birds in front she pulls like a train. This is one of the things I intend to work on this year.
