Idiopatic Polyradiculoneuropathy
« on: May 11, 2017, 02:09:52 PM »
A very unknown disease by vets and because of that i want to share it with you.
It's a disease in which the nerve roots get inflamed  and can only be diagnosed by excluding certain causes with the same symptoms such as: Toxoplasmosis, botulism, slow thyroid function, neospora, pancreatic tumor, thoracic tumor, insulinoma neuropathy, recent rabies vaccination and some other causes. If this is al excluded than it is possible to take biopsy of the nerverroots to diagnose an inflammation of the nerveroots
Idiopathic means that the cause is unknown.

The clinical picture associated with this is an initial rigid walk, soon evolves into an LMN tetraparese or tetraplegy, extending from the back to the front legs. A neurogenic muscle atrophy is observed in addition to possible nasal congestion and hyperesthesia. Cervical ventrophy and respiratory difficulties can complete the picture.

Many vets doesn't know this disease en will put the dog to sleep, but most dogs will recover from this disease some will in 2 to 3 weeks some will take longer even up to 4 to 6 months. It's possbile that they will have some minor problems afterwords.
greetings,
Marina, Saartje and Teun

Wow!  This is really generous of you sharing, thank you.

Makes me wonder how many "back issues" are diagnosed when it could be an underlying disease?  I also wonder if wandering grass seeds or thorns may contribute?
