How are you doing it? My old GSD had to have eye drops,  nearly all his life. I used to straddle over his shoulders and jam his head between my knees (admittedly a GSD is bigger so he head was just the right height! ;)) and he did eventually give up the fight and cooperate. Don't know if that helps?
They have the soft muzzles on Amazon (at least they do here).
Best of luck!!

Approaching from behind is probably a good call.

when I 1st got one of my spaniels to cooperate I would prop them up in corner of sofa or armchair so we were both comfy too + treats were involved - I did it in stages at 1st re sight of bottle give treat and so on - funny thing was when Roobs was having daily drops week in week out Wilf would go and sit next to her as if in line as he knew treats were involved LOL

Still waiting for the muzzle to arrive so we can continue with the eye drops.  And, getting a little fed up with waiting for the results of the blood tests from the specialist! They should have been back before the end of last week, but 3 phone calls have resulted in precisely zilch!  The receptionist yesterday told me that the results were back, but that she suspected that there was one missing so was going to phone the lab to check, and that the eye vet was not in again until today and promised that he would call me today.  Going to phone again in the morning.

 >:(  That's very annoying.
I was thinking about you this week as I was trying to put drops into Humphrey's ears and he was being very uncooperative. He'll normally let himself be handled quite well when he's being groomed, so in the end I decided to put him on the table today where I usually brush him. He lay down expecting the usual pampering and I popped them in quick with no resistance at all!
We only have to put them in for 7 days and I didn't think of doing this until day 5 !!
Don't know if by any chance that might help you?
Keeping fingers crossed for you for a good result, when it finally arrives!  ;)

Have just spoken to the eye vet this morning - one of the lipids that they tested for is very mildly raised, but so mild that it is almost certainly not causing the deposit in Ozzy's eye.  As he is not showing any other signs of any of the diseases that could cause it, he says that there really isn't a lot more that can be done.  I asked about more blood tests to see whether something else showed up, and he said that it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have a general health one.  He did suggest, however, a very low fat 'prescription' diet  :shades:, which I shall fight tooth and nail against as I'm not comfortable with him being on Hills or the other one vets sell that I can't remember the name of  ph34r.  Apart from anything else, being grain intolerant, they aren't good for him!  He was put on one last autumn when he developed some nasty 'hot spots', and it played havoc with his constitution - it was then he started to eat his own pooh, which is something he is still doing now if the opportunity occurs! After that we put him on a raw diet which seems to suit him well.

Anyway, I've phoned our vets and asked for a call back when Steve has the results to see where we go from here, so I'll let you know.

Ozzy was back at our usual vets for more general health blood tests on Tuesday - Steve says that he will ask for an 'elderly dog workup' (?) as well because although he isn't elderly, the diseases that can cause the lipid deposit are things that often can afflict an elderly dog, although not always.  One of the vet nurses also managed to get a urine sample from him. I wouldn't know where to start, but apparently she took him to the area where they take all the dogs for a wee, and he had a good sniff then obligingly cocked his leg and she managed to catch it - amazing, she's my hero now!  Should get any results today or tomorrow.

Update - just had a call from Steve the vet - all Ozzy's blood tests are clear, nothing abnormal at all which is a relief. However, still a little frustrating as it turns out that they can't find the cause of the lipid deposit, so subsequently there is no treatment, so he, and us, will have to just live with it.  Apparently the cornea is clear, so there will only be minimal loss of vision, maybe a bit foggy, but he can certainly still see perfectly well and that is unlikely to change.
