Another complicated stage for Jett - the joys of dog ownership, here goes....
My young Jett is nearly 11 months old now and over the weekend I noticed something with regards to his behaviour and dogs around him.
We went to a park and I let him off the lead so he can have a run around. A few other dogs came over and a couple of them (similar age) started to randomly get aggressive with Jett and full on attack mode
.
I know all the dogs in the group and have never had issues with any of them in the past. The owners were just as in shock as I was.
Unfortunately Jett retaliated and tried attacking one of them back, I can see why he did it as he was defending himself. At that point I got him on his lead and walked away. All the dogs in the group were young male dogs.
Jett has never shown any signs of aggression ever, even when he was attacked by another dog a while ago he just stepped back. He never growls and is normally just a sweet loving dog.
I also noticed over the weekend that random dogs that walk past us seem to growl and lunge at Jett
. I'm not overprotective at all with him and normally let him go up to other dogs and let them meet etc., however this weekend most of the dogs just want to attack him.
At home is completely fine and has never been aggressive to any of us and is his normal playful happy self.
Another thing I noticed yesterday was at his training. We get all the dogs to sit and stay whilst we walk backwards away from the dogs. They are all in a line and generally they all did very well. However one of the dogs decided to run off, a couple of the others followed and then Jett followed
. He was literally stuck on the dogs tail and I managed to get to him before he jumped on the others dogs back, I could just tell he was about to pounce.
Sorry one other thing is that he is being a complete pain with recall at the minute as well. He does come eventually but he seems to be very interested in other dogs and at times completely ignores me. I've read on here that this is quite common at this age and is best to start recall training again if this happens. I have started to do this and will continue.
Oh also not sure if its relevant but he seems to mark his scent on every tree/lamp post.
All of the above, do you think this is because he is growing in to an adult dog and his hormones are causing the issues?
The biggest concern I have is that other random dogs seem to think he is a threat and just attack him.
Its like Jett is letting off smells to the other male dogs and they are attacking him.
