do you know what fur pulling is
« on: May 21, 2007, 01:12:49 PM »
 :D

hello there hope you are all well

an associate of mine said to me that for the first three times at least i must get my puppies coat pulled instead of clipped

as apparently if i dont their coats become thick and fleece like.

is this true, is it a must or is it preference, it sounds a bit grewsome to me.

if this is so how do i do it.

does it hurt the puppy.

any advice will be gratefully received.

p.s sorry for no capitals my two year old daught destroyed my keyboard i have no caps lock.   :005:

Having a coat handstripped is not essential but it will give you a nicer finish. Constant clipping does make the coat go wooly on most dogs. The process of handstripping shouldn't be painful as its dead hair that you are pulling away. You can read more about it on this thread http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?topic=71.0

You won't need to worry about this until the puppy is around 6 months old or so, the coat is not ready to handstrip until the puppy coat is ready to shed and the adult coat comes in. The age this happens at varies from dog to dog, so you have a while to learn about it  ;)
