« on: June 20, 2007, 08:14:37 PM »
Hi,
Very quick question, Henry currently has two meals of puppy nutro choice ( lamb and rice) a day, he is coming up to a year old now and im not sure when im supposed to introduce adult food. Is it too soon? Very grateful for any thoughts and advice. Thanks

Ellie is on Arden grange Puppy junior. She will be one next month, so after this bag I will put her on the adult, as recommended on the bag

I put Jesse on adult food at 4 months old! I don't like keeping them on puppy food for too long.

I seem to remember when Molo was on Nutro that the recommendation was to keep the pup on it for longer than some of the other brands - I changed Molo from Nutro puppy to Burns Adult at about 7 months, but vaguely remember being told that Nutro puppy should be fed for the first year

We fed Nutro for a number of years and all our pups went onto adult food at 7-8 months old (depending on how much was left in the bag of puppy food :D). I don't know why Nutro say pups should stay on the puppy food until 12 months - doesn't seem to make much sense & it certainly never made any difference to our puppies to change to the adult food earlier than this ;)

Whats the reason behind changing to adult food around 6mths or so? I have always been led to believe its so they dont develop too fast  :-\ Is this correct  :-\

Billy has almost fully grown at 6mths & was starting to become really hyper. I was told to take him off puppy food as it is much higher in protein than adult food & that this amount of protein wasn't needed any longer.

That's what I thought too - puppy food is much richer than adult food.  I was worried that Coco would never stop growing!

I suppose it depends on what food you feed then. Ellie is on puppy junior AG she will be a year old next month. She is still quite a small cocker I think she still has some growing to do. When this bag is finished though I will change her on to adult.
Isn't BARF high in protein then.

I had a chat to pet food shop owner and he said at 11 - 12 months old Henry she be weened onto nutro adult food. Ive still got some nutro puppy left so thought i would do half puppy and half adult until the puppy runs out. I thought about changing from nutro choice to burns , however Henry has such a lovely healthy coat and it seems to suit his tummy so sticking with it. Hopefully he will like it .
