Low calorie and/or filling dog food?
« on: July 23, 2007, 01:22:11 PM »
Are there any dog foods on the market at the moment, that are low calorie or any foods that make them feel full?  :-\ Fudge is a total porker and is ALWAYS hungry-at home he is fed on bakers, not measured just tipped out of the bag ::) and whatever he thieves from the fridge! (he probably could do with worming too!) any suggestion welcome!

You could try a higher quality food - Bakers has a lot of fillers made of carbohydrate and other ingredients that are of little nutritional value to dogs  ph34r

Why not approach it as a bit of a surprise to you. Someone told you that Bakers has additives  and you did a quick look on the interweb yaddah yaddah yaddah and she might want to try something a bit more wholesome. Problem you might have though is over cost.  :-\

....no wonder fudge is so agitated - tis like feeding a hyper child coca cola and blue smarties ::)

if price is an issue any chance of getting something like Autarky?  as it's classed as a working dog food there is no VAT on it and it's a good kibble ;)

I think I'd try the manipulative approach - "did you know that some dogs react badly to highly processed food? maybe that's why you are finding Fudge so difficult......I know that you really want to solve the problem, so how about you try this?"

Then, each time they moan on the phone about him - you can ask if they have changed his food and if they tell you they haven't then I would probably say something like "you can't really want to change his behaviour, thenph34r

i might go with the 'what food are you feeding?' approach-and then act all shocked and say something like 'my friend who breeds champion sussex spaniels told me that some dogs are allergic to the E-numbers in that, also that its full of carbohydrates and stuff that dogs find hard to digest! do you think this is whats causing fudge to misbehave?' and see what the reaction is! if its positive i will suggest something like Autarky (i once won a voucher or a bag of this eons ago-i cant quite remember which-but i liked the look of it and my dogs liked it, i was then unable to find it until recently! >:() 'because Autarky doesnt contain E-numbers and its VAT free! this might help with fudges problems and i know you want to help him' failing that we might just buy a bag and give it them!

thank you all for some great ideas :-*
