quotes

sorry if this sounds really thick but how do you 'quote' from another post? well how do you get it highlighted? the last time i did it, it just came up with quote at either side

If you click above the post you want to quote where it says Quote, you should then get your reply box open with the message in there.  You can then delete bits of the quote if you want, say there is just a sentence you want, but make sure the quote marks stay either side.  Then go onto PREVIEW to check it has worked.
