chicken wing
« on: July 22, 2008, 09:54:34 AM »
Ok, so I am about to give Kali her first chicken wing in just under 2 years.  I have a supply of them, have frozen them individually, have one in the fridge but..... do I batter it first?  Aye, as in bang it, not beer batter :005:  Do I leave the knuckley end on it or chop that off?  Do I skin it if I don't want her to put weight on?  Oh and did I mention that I am bricking it at the thought ph34r ph34r :embarassed: :embarassed: :'( :'(

You'll be fine - don't worry about bashing or taking pointy end off.  Kali might have a bit of crunch but you will tend to find they will go down whole or in 2 parts - inhaled is normally word used.  Harvey has been on chicken wings since he was about 10 weeks without incident and is by far his favourite meal, not even tripe compares....

It sometimes takes a couple or 3 goes before they completely figure out the best way to eat so don't worry if the interest isn't there first time....

Look forward to lots of cocker kissses from Kali after this one....

No, it wasn't the pointy end, it was the other end with the knuckle on.  Do I cut that off?

Charley had chicken wings from 8 weeks old - he had no trouble at all! And surprised me how quickly he began to eat them! Dont worry, she will be ok!  :luv:

Has she had it yet??

I have only recently started giving them to Millie (aged 2) the first one I did batter (with a rolling pin  :005:) but don't know why I bothered - after a bit of throwing it around and licking it she soon just started crunching it (sounds horrible   :o) and I'm amazed at just how quick it goes down.  ;)

I'm sure Kali wil be/was fine.  :D

I cut them up into smaller pieces for Marley to start with then gradually left them bigger as he got used to them. You don't have to cut anything off it, they eat it all.  :D

Eeeek.  It disappeared in about 3 minutes!  Now I am going to be in a panic because the last time I gave her a wing she was sick with splinters a few hours after.  She did crunch some of it though, I heard it  :P

She'll be fine ;) .... I believe that bringing back up excess bone is not uncommon, especially while they adjust to a new diet.
