Excessive Drinking

Have anyone had any experience of this :

Yesterday I gave Jazz a pork bone brought from Pets at home, which she destroyed in 15 mins flat.  All was well last night with her sleeping, even though on Saturday night she cried for an hour before i finally brought her to bed. ( I think she had too much excitement with Lottie )

Anyway I went to work this morning and left her with a full bowl of cold water, and when I got home at 13.00 she had drunk the whole lot, obviously had been attacking the empty bowl as it was the other side of the room.  I put fresh water down and in one go she drunk the whole lot. ( Its quite a big bowl ) I then refilled it, and she drunk half as much again.

Do you think this was the bone, or something else? I have never seen her drink so madly even in the hot hot weather.

I am going in to hospital tomorrow for an operation, and am a bit worried she's going to be ill whilst the dog care has her.

I would appreciate comments from anyone who knows what this may be...

Forgot to add - she also has runny tummy... otherwise maybe she was just thirsty

Hi Cathy, Nell drinks a lot when we give her bones from pet smart, and they also give her the runs.   so we stopped getting them.

I would just keep an eye on her, and if she's no better ring mr vet.

Good luck with your op tomorrow.  :)

Funny you should post this, Molly hardly touches her water but today I've filled it 5 times.  She too had a bone - must have been that

Good luck with your op. Cathy, hope everything goes well and you're back on your feet soon!

Hi Cathy

I would suspect it may be the bone too, especially pork ones :P

Just to let you know, that I will be thinking of you tomorrow, when you have your op, hope its nothing too serious and that you are up and about shortly :)

Take care of yourself and milk it for all its worth

Pork is usually salty so I would also quess it is that.
Good luck with your op, hope all goes well.

Thanks for best wishes for today.

Jazz carried on drinking lots last night up until I took her to the carer, the lady said she'd keep an eye on it.

I must be very naive, I didn't realise bones had such an affect. She normally has rawhide which makes her thirsty and drinks well throughout the day. I was just shocked to see so much being drunk  in one go, like she had been starved of water.

Ske certainly  won't be getting one of those again. As she'd also been sick.

Thanks again, and hope to be back in a couple of days.
