Gone off breakfast
« on: March 09, 2012, 09:44:52 AM »
This week Sally has pretty much stopped eating her breakfast.

She is fed Barking Heads. She gets about 1/3 of her daily ration at breakfast time and 2/3 at dinner. She is still eating her dinner with gusto and seems fine in herself. Poos normal etc.

Any thoughts folks? Should I be worried?

By the way, she is nearly two and has been spayed.

Does she eat it later? I have to admit that breakfast is a bit of a moveable feast for Maisie at 2.5 years. She often prefers to eat at lunchtime.

Overall daily consumption has remained the same since she was around 18 months but she just sometimes doesn't want it first thing. I must also admit that occasionally I leave the evening meal down overnight (in winter) if she hasn't eaten much of it before bed. The eating of breakfast though seems independent of whether the evening meal has been left down for her to munch overnight  :005:

She's been eating it at around 3ish if I leave it down. But generally I pick it up at lunch time if she hasn't eaten it by then.

I think if Maisie was full of beans and not losing weight I'd probably just keep an eye. Perhaps she's just not hungry. If there were any other signs that something was not well I'd be inclined to pop up to the vet for peace of mind  :luv:

We have been known to grate a bit of cheese on Maisie's dinners to liven up the taste buds :005:

Have you tried putting a little warm water on it. Makes it more smelly to eat.

The impression I'm getting is she has just 'gone off' eating in the morning. Strange pup.

Might try the warm water trick and see if that makes any difference.

I think there are dogs that end up being just one meal a day dogs.  I would also keep an eye on her and if the are no other signs then just go with the flow.

Well, this morning breakfast was eaten promptly at 6:30am with lots of exuberant tail wagging and bottom wiggling.

 :dunno:
