Maybe you are going on the same course as us.  Is it the grade one class run by the Gundog club in the Sevenoaks area?  We will be going on the six week Thursday morning class rather than a one-off day though.
How old is Harley?  I would have liked to have taken Zebedee last autumn when he was younger, but a holiday got in the way (he is now 11 months).  Hopefully he's not too old compared with the others.
Have you been practising with the dummy and whistle etc?  I am totally new to the whole concept of working dogs, have never been on a shoot or anything like that, but Zeb has been practising retrieving the 1lb training dummy, seems to be pretty good at it - but what do I know!  I hope I don't find out I have been practising the wrong things with him.
(And what it is we do with a slipline and a lanyard, I have no idea!)

Jo and Zeb

Hi Jo

This is just a one day course in gundog training and is near Tonbridge in Kent.  The trainer running the course has his own kennels and has run various training days at different venues.  He recommended to me to do the one day training and then he also does personal tuition on a bi-monthly basis, so will most probably follow up with that.

Harley has just turn a year old now, and he does the retrieval of dummies etc, both on ground and in water.  We were lucky enough, at the beginning of the month to be invited on a shoot in Sussex, to see if Harley was gun-shy or not, he didnt jump at all, but I did!!   :005: :005:

If you PM me your email address, I can send you a book in word format on gundog training, which I have taken a few ideas from and worked on.

Best of luck with your course.

Hi, I would just like to introduce myself and my family.  My name is Hayley my husbands name is Nigel, we have two children Britney aged 8, Brandon aged 5 and two dogs, Freya who is a 4 year old German Shepherd and Sadie who is a year old Working Cocker Spaniel.
I am new to this site and I was looking round and found this post. My husband  has booked to go on this training day and as my husband is just starting out in the world of shooting and gundogs I think it will be a really good day for him and Sadie.

The Muppeteers are now booked onto this - not sure what Queen B will make of it tbh as she's not the keenest retriever (flushing, yes, retrieving, no ) but I think Zorro will love it!  :D

That'll be a great party for Zebedee! :luv:

I think the Muppeteers are going to be sooooo shown up as the only show cockers there, especially Bella, she's got her whole own ideas about what "retrieve" means...  ::) :005:

I hope they don't need to be trained already.. Ayla is far from doing anything but mugging everyone in classes she gets so excited :luv:  If I can clear a bit of my schedule I'd quite like to attend.

That is so sweet there are going to be two birthday pups!

Tasha I am a little worried about Zeb pestering the other dogs too.  He is an obedient boy when he is alone or with older dogs who definitely do not want to play with him, walks to heel, retrieves, sits, stays, has good recall etc.  But if there are other young dogs around, who look like they may be good potential playmates, it all goes out of the window!

Hi,

Could you PM me the details as I don't live too far from Tonbridge? Do they need to already have some gundog training to attend?

No the course will be divided into different groups, so that you will be in the same class as dogs of the same ability.  I will be in the beginners group with Harley, as this will be his first official gundog training.

What a shame I'd loved to have attended with Jakey but have no car ATM  >:D

Would have been great to have done it with other COL members.

Oooh - Zorro will be happy, he loved Mollie at the last meet!  :luv:  God knows how we are going to keep all these bouncy cockers from playing....  :005:

I have a feeling Mollie is going to be a bad influence as I think she will want to play. :005: I might have to work on her recall and retrieving before the training day as she is easily distracted. It should be fun and we should have some nicely worn out cockers :shades:

Zorro is the same, very easily distracted especially if there's a pretty lady cocker in the vicinity  :luv:

We took them both out with dummies at the weekend to just get them used to retrieving them somewhere other than the garden and Bella (who normally really can't be bothered bringing things back) was much better than Zorro (who is normally fab) because she was able to stay focussed. Who knows what they'll be like on the day but Zorro gets distracted by bunny smells half way round the agility course so I don't hold out too much hope!  :005:

Not sure whether we are going at the moment, last week I rang them and he said he still had places and I was to email him and he woiuld email directions through to me. I hadn't heard anytihing by Sunday so I emailed again and he still hasn't go back to me.

Did you all have to email him so he could send details through and have you all heard back yet? Am I just being impatient? It's just 4 days until the training day and I have really been looking forward to it as I thought Mollie would enjoy it.

Yes I did email him and he emailed details the next day. I also sent him an email to book someone else on the day and he replied the same day. Have the emails you have been sending going to the right email address? Here is his email address just in case you have got it wrong: By Email: chris@breezeleafspaniels.co.uk

I had the right email address, it seems he had problems with his connection for a few days. I have spoken to him this afternoon and we are booked on the day and he is going to post the directions to me.

Oh dear, I've a feeling my two little show cockers are going to be seriously shown up with all these workers  :lol2: :lol2:  Zorro has the concentration span of a gnat and Bella (who doesn't like doing anything without good reason) will soon start questioning *why* she should go and retrieve the dummy *again*  :005:

Looking forward to it though - see you all there!  :D

I still haven't got the map for this training day, Chris had said on Wednesday he was going to post the details to me as his email is playing up at the moment. I still haven't had it yet and i'm getting worried. If I ring him again today the chances are it wont come in time for Sunday, he said he had booked us a place. Can someone pm me the details if they have got them as I donn't know where i'm going.

We had a really good day yesterday, the Muppeteers really enjoyed themselves although Bella got a bit out of hand wanting to wrestle everyone (ending up in a tangle with poor Mollie!  ph34r :005:). The guy doing the training was great, it was so nice to be taught by someone who understands spaniels.

We were in the beginners group (all working cockers, springers, one lab and our two show cockers  :005:) so we did basic obedience, getting them to do long sit stays in the middle of a countryside field, recalls, and a tiny bit of retrieving (Bella got a round of applause for being a pretty little show cocker, very delicately picking up the dummy and bringing it all the way back, in her own sweet time...  :lol2: :luv:). We finished with a bit of teaching them how to quarter properly. I'd definitely recommend Breezeleaf Training for anyone just wanting to do some decent obedience work  (we have no intention of working our two although quite a few people on the course were there for that purpose, obviously) in a "real" place (i.e. not in a church hall but in a field full of distractions), without treats, and with pretty good results.

We were all completely shattered when we got home, the dogs were out like a light.  :luv:
