Barbed wire.................
« on: November 02, 2010, 06:56:39 PM »
 :badmood: :badmood: :badmood:

Poor Alfie has received his first 'working' injury......a ripped open wound no doubt from blooming barbed wire....vets visit last night but thankfully, got away without having stitches - vet just cut away all the flapping skin and treated him with antibiotics.  It seems to be knitting together already so hopefully Alfie will be ok by next week.

Aw poor boy, I'm glad it didn't need stitches, it should heal pretty quickly :luv:  Mine have picked up a few minor barbed wire injuries while working, I hate the stuff >:(  Tilly ran right through a low strand a few years ago and got a small tear in her chest and Rodaidh got snaffled on a twisted piece hanging off a fence as he was jumping through it but they were both ok, tbh neither of them really noticed it at the time! I tore my trousers climbing over a 3-strand fence on a shoot last year ::)

Ditto the hate :badmood:

Henry got hooked on some last year just hooning about the woods - fortunately he only had a shallow scratch but he nearly gave me a heart attack screaming! I think it was fear of being trapped more than pain, but it is nasty stuff nonetheless >:(

Hope your Alfie is better soon :luv:

Aw... so hope he mends soon :luv: :luv:

It's horrid stuff, I once saw Normy hit some old barbed wire fencing in the woods at warp speed (she was after a wabbit) she hit it so hard it threw her into a complete somersault and I've no idea how, but she didn't even suffer a scratch :o It really worries me though as it's in all the farmland hedging around here too and it's only a matter of time before one of them really hurts themselves - glad Alfie seems to have got away with minimal damage though :luv:

Hope he gets better soon. The trouble is they have a much higher pain threshold than us and that's what worries me. They could be quite injured and we not realise the seriousness of it.

I hate the stuff too.  >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D My old collie was always injuring herself on the stuff. The thing with Collies is sometimes they don't look where their going. One time I remember she split her stomach and it looked like all her guts were hanging out.  :020: It wasn't thank god and just the muscle etc, but she'd gone through a few layers. I couldn't look at it, it was gross.  :P Evil stuff.  >:( Glad Alfies on the mend.  :luv:

I also hate the stuff to...
Cause some damage to one of are friends horse couple of weeks back ripped his nose open on barbed wire...I have in the past ask Mick the farmer were are horse are kept WHY does he use Barbed wire...(Being an American invention and brought back to england)...Farmers just don't seem to know if you ask me....I said it causes no end of damage to animals...Even while on holiday this year on the island of Skye..We saw no end of sheep trailing Barbed wire behind them...And you dare not try and stop them for fier of causing more damage to the poor animal....
