We have 7 dogs in our small house, (all working type ) they are part of our family but only share down stairs with us.
I am not house proud, how can I be with 7 dogs. I do dislike the smell of doggy households.
I will frequently ask our friends if anyone visits, for an honest answer and then ask if the house smells doggy. The reply is always NO smell. Even our wet dogs do not smell.
We have had the occasional comment that our house does not smell doggy even with so many dogs living in it with us.
I do hoover most days, doors and windows are always open when the weather is fine and warm.
The dogs are only rinsed in warm water until it runs off them clean if they return home dirty after a days beating (sometimes up to 3 or 4 tines a week in the shooting season) Absolutely NO shampoos are used. Shampoo will only be used on the area of fox poo if they have rolled in any. I can't remember the last time any of them did this though.
I remember one evening sitting in one of our favourite pubs having dinner and someone walked past with the smelliest Labrador ever PHEW ! They did pause to speak as we had a couple of ours under the table while we were eating, ( I could not bring myself to touch their very smelly dog) poor thing, he was very friendly. I could not let them leave without asking politely what type of food he was fed, (he was rather heavy too) the reply was "Kibble"
I have read, and been told too that kibble fed dogs can smell a lot, Phew this one sure did.
We have fed raw meats to our lot for a very l-o-n-g time, many many years.
I can only conclude that this is the reason that none of ours smell and neither does our house.
Maybe we are just LUCKY !!
