Weight of an Adult make Cocker
« on: December 06, 2008, 08:07:46 AM »
Hi Yesterday we collected our Cocker Puppy Murphy and he is gorgeous.
We are feeding him Royal Canin Junior and it says on the packet that we should feed him now according to what weight he will be when he is an adult.

So what weight in Kgs can we expect Murphy to be when he is all grown up.
Thanks

Every dog is different and their weight varies

Royal canine is not being very helpful here are they  :-\

This is a hard one to advise on - Adult cockers can range from 12kg to 18kg (roughly these weights are) - some will look over weight at 12kg and others will still look thin at 15kg

sorry not much help am I  ph34r

Welcome to COL tho  :D

Welcome to COL.

Like Cazza said, they vary a lot. I've had 3 male show bred Cockers whose adult weights averaged 13kg, 17kg (he was a very big Cocker) and 15kg.

Maybe Murphy's breeder will be able to help, especially if she has both parents and can tell you how much they weigh.

Can I ask a question along the same lines - what age does a dog reach it's 'adult' weight?

I also pondered on this question when I first got Chloe and was feeding her Beta...(says on the bag, feed according to expected weight of adult). I looked up on Cocker Spaniel Society website to find average weight of an adult cocker, but I now realise this can vary widely! I think its a bit of trial and error as to how much you feed them, cos theyre all so different  ;) Chloe is already 12.5kg at 7 months...so not exactly "average"  :005:

I wanted to ask the same question as tigs71. Ollie is 7 months and already 11kg. He looks like he's got loads more to grow, but wanted to know what age he'll stop growing.

Height wise they usually stop growing at about 9-10 months but they then can often go through a bit of a skinny lanky phase and after that they will start to fill out and put on muscle. I would say with mine they didn't really reach their full adult size/shape and weight until around 18-20 months.
