Working Cocker Books ?????????
« on: September 11, 2007, 04:51:18 PM »
Hi, can anyone suggest the name/s of any good general working cocker books please??

All I can find in the pet shops are books on show cockers, I've also had a look on Amazon but, without a name I don't know if they are any use or specific to working cockers (searching for working cockers revealed no books).

Thanks

There are lots of books on training working cockers but I've never found a 'general' book on them if that's what you're looking for. The Joe Irving one is good but the best one I've found is Mike Smith's 'Working Springers and Cockers' which is the one on Happydog's second link. Headley Millington's 'The Cocker Man' is also worth a look.

yes - Mike and Hedleys are the only specialist books at the moment - watch this space though ;)

the late Keith Erlandson does touch on the breed in one of his books, his description of evilness and humour is bang on :005:

wouldnt worry Nicola - Im well jinxed - if it can go wrong it does  Im now into ridiculous back up systems involving flash pens, old zip drive and backing to my old PC which is running as a server.  Even my elderly mothers brand new PC with hardly any software on it isnt running well and had to spend most of Sunday fixing it. The most annoyng thing is though I spent a holiday in Zante 2 years ago and made a ton of notes and did lots of research etc (ie didnt see much of the island) - all in a folder to be kept safely. So safe that I cant find it :005: At the time after turning the house upside down I was annoyed - I can see the funny side though now - Ill redo everything and it'll turn up and be staring me in the face

Thank you all for your responses, I have Headley Millington's The Cocker Man, I thouroughly enjoyed it and was dissapointed when I got to the end, it was a great read. I loved his description of cockers' as "pocket rockets" how true  :005:

Right, I'll check out what I can get a hold of on Amazon

Cheers
