Pancreatitis and bladder stones
« on: September 13, 2018, 09:14:27 AM »
Hey, I am new to this forum so please bare with me.
My almost 9 year old girl is having an operation this morning having two struvites  removed from her bladder .
She?s on a low fat diet because of her pancreas , and now she needs a diet to help keep her bladder healthy.
Is there any of you that has a dog with the same problem that has sussed out their diet.
Thanks in advance.

Two of my Scotties had bladder stones, loads of them by the time they were discovered. They were both put on Hills diet, they have one for this problem, and it didn't recur, but they hated the food. This was a few years ago now, so maybe there is new thinking on diet?

Best wishes for the operation  :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Thank you both for your best wishes, tis a long morning 😬.
I spoke to the nurse today and she said the low fat diet is still a must but I may be able to add a supplement or medication to help with the crystals.
Bless her 💝

My girl suffers from struvite crystals and I found a brilliant facebook page called Raw Fed Dalmations.  Apparently as a breed they are prone to crystals / bladder stones etc.  I found some great information (I didnt want to feed kibble or prescription diet) on low purine foods and what to avoid (offal and strong red meat).

Be aware that dried food causes more problems because it dehydrates them further.

I also give a supplement called Vet IQ Urinary Care Paste from Pets at Home when she has a flare up.

Just reading this can you tell me what the symptoms are for the Stuyvite crystals, my girl has them, but they don't appear to be causing issues at the moment, we tried a special diet which didn't help much...how does low Purine help?

Humbug has had pancreatitis since November. We were told not to give him a raw carrot with it at all.
