Randy Sid !
« on: March 03, 2011, 05:11:03 PM »
Posted on here few weeks ago about a male dog with a big drive and now it's happening to me!

OH took our dog round to friends on Sat they have a female lab she was shoving her bum in his face.

Took sid to the COL meet Sun and he chased Holly for nearly 2 hours trying to mount her also licking her lady garden eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!

Monday took him to the local dog run and he stalked a male dog repeated sniffing of the bum and trying to mount had to go home due to embarassment.

Tuesday local dog run again he pestered another male dog to the point we wnet home in the end.

Mentioned at class on Monday trainer said can take 6 months for hormones to settle and also male castrated dogs can give off female scent so this could explain his interest in the other side!

My friend thinks he may just be having a surge and best not to let him off for fear of him learning this behaviour for good.  I am rather sad :embarassed: as I like to let him off to run round with the other dogs but to be honest he is just hounding.

Help should I keep him on the lead until this passes?  He is 11 months and was castrated at 7 months. :005:

Was the lab on saturday in season?

Do any of the dogs he's 'interested' in have anal gland problems?

My first question to OH was the bitch in season he said he didnt think so however the owners of it are not so responsible so it's a possibility.

And as for anal glands well...................thats another conversation to be had at the dog run!  Would this make him frisky?

I was thinking if the lab was in season and got Sid 'interested' it may well follow that he was all riled up on Sunday, hence his onslaught on Holly....

and yes, boys with anal gland issues can attracted unwanted male attention  ph34r

I agree about the testosterone not disappearing for a few months too  ;)

I think you may need a long line for a while - he's at an age where running off and socialising can be much more fun than re-call, so it could be time to reinforce some basic training  ;)
