Title: Nana beautiful black and tan Cocker with special needs Foal Farm Kent
Post by: *kimbo* on December 04, 2007, 04:56:46 PM
Nana is a 3 year old Cocker Spaniel

Nana is a very affectionate young lady who came to foal because her owners were moving. Unfortunately Nana has problems with her eyesight so can become a little stressed as it is difficult for her to see what's going on. For this reason Nana would do best in a calm home with another dog friendly dog.

Oh she's gorgeous!  :luv:  I'm wondering if now is the wrong time to introduce another dog. Griffin is a little  but he's only 6 months. We do want to add to our family but were thinking it would be when Griffin is about 18 months. Would we be unwise to consider Nana whilst Griffin is at this age?  If so, I hope someone falls for her and gives he r a happy ever after  :luv:

I've emailed Foal Farm today offering to foster this girl until a forever home comes along as she has been up for homing before and either been taken back or it didn't happen.  I think she'd be better off in a foster home rather than kennels with her eyesight but we shall see if they respond

They are only 5mins from me.  OH says we can foster but not adopt another.

I hope you can do that Louise, would be so much nicer than a kennel environment for her - my fingers are crossed that if you do that she forces your OH to fall in love with her :luv: :luv: :luv:

If you had a pet with special needs wouldn't you bust a gut to keep her and make sure her life was a happy one?

Sorry, perhaps I shouldn't judge, but it seems very harsh to me.

She looks so beautiful. I do hope she will find her forever home soon.

Not sure if you saw my reply or not  ph34r  I am wondering if Griffin is too young to introduce another dog yet? We were thinking about getting another pup or a rescue if one comes up. But is Grifin too young yet?  I don't want to send an email and waste their time if Griffin wouldn't be right for her and she for him.

It's your decision but personally I'd say he is a bit too young. Plus if her eye sight problems are causing her to be stressed a young pup darting around maybe too much for her  :-\

She is gorgeous, that picture is scary as she is the absolute spit of Billy  :o
Wonder what her KC pedigree is?  The similarity is amassing!

Thanks Jan.  I thought as much which I guess is why I asked rather than just emailed. She's so gorgeous I just fell for her. When OH came home I showed him and he is in love too. Griffin is pretty calm for a puppy, but he IS still a puppy so can have his moments. We don't have kids and I'm home all day and am planning to work from home once uni is finsihed so would have loved to have her. But Griff is number one priority at the moment and any dog w take has to be right for him, and he has to be right for her too.  I just hope a good home is found for her.

I've not heard anything  :'(  Emailed directly and PM'd through DP wish they'd say if they weren't interested.

Maybe I'll try rining tomorrow.  Trouble is when I went there looking for a dog I found the lady on reception quite scary but I'll do it for Nana's sake.

Good luck!  :D

I really hope you are lucky to foster her, she is beautiful.  Looking after a special needs kid is so rewarding as i have found with my charlie.  i certainly would not hesitate to take on a special needs kid, and I would move heaven and earth to keep my boy.

Well done Louise, hope they come back to you soon!!

Carys, Dave was 4 months when I re-homed Storm (she's 2.5 yrs) so it can work..

It's a lot of hard work and a little nerve wracking at times and you have to be prepared to do a bit of separate walks and training but it is possible depending on characters of the dogs etc.. I'd agree with you wholeheartedly that Griff is a very calm, sweet natured little chap so they could compliment each other ad he might help with her confidence - it was because Dave is so laid back on walks that I even considered taking on an older re-home..

Suspect the issue here is more whether you feel ready or not to take on that responsibility/challenge yet. 2 dogs is very different to one and Griff won't get the levels of attention he's been used to and if her eyesight isn't good and he starts messing around with recall etc, you may have a spot of bother there. However, there is also the old jealousy factor and mine compete to be better behaved than each other at times too so there is a possibility that that would happen. As she's quite a bit older than him it might well work... although you obviously have Griff's teenage years coming up soon too and this is where I'm expecting a bit more trouble with my two!

She's so much like Coco it's unbelievable. I do hope she find someone who cares about her, if she wasn't so far away I'd be tempted if Coco wasn't such a handful.

I am so glad of the responce thankyou :D  I generally look around the rescue sites in the UK on my lunch brake and any cockers I see I post on here hoping that someone might want to give them a home. Well done for offering to foster her I think that she is stunning and if I didnt have my puppy I would have her for myself. Its a shame that the rescue centre havent contacted you back. Be brave and phone at least then you will know one way or another.

No, I've phoned twice today and left a message on their answerphone  :'(

Seems they don't answer the phone but listen to messages periodically throughout the day.  I'll go up there after work tomorrow if no joy.

 :o

I am always amazed when these rescues do these things, they say they need help but don't respond to offers  I had the same thing happen to me with a rescue that specializes in old dogs!  :-\ ::)

How frustrating Louise - it amazes me that they would just ignore a genuine offer of help >:(  They may be busy but it seems like madness and such a waste.  :'(  Have you actually been there to see if you can get any joy??

It really is their loss if they let you slip through their fingers  :-\  I am sure most rescues would bite your hand off for your offer to foster  ;)

Good luck and don't give up!

Foal Farm has refused all my offers to foster this little girl but say they have been inundated with offers to home her.  However, yesterday they sent me an email asking if I'd consider adopting her completely and enclosing an application form.

I'm pretty sure she's still looking.

Hi   I also e-mailed Foal Farm about Nana I was told No as I live in Wiltshire they could not do a home check. I rang them yesterday suggesting my local dogs home could help with that. I was happy to take my 3 dogs on the journey to Kent on the many occasions the lady had said would be required as Nana has sight problems. I was happy for them to contact my vet who I have used for 12 years. The lady had  no interest in my suggestions and just kept saying No. I would have loved  the chance to offer Nana her forever home. jo xx  Good Luck Nana
