Freshfields. L'pool: Brandy, 8y old golden boy
« on: April 13, 2007, 12:48:12 PM »

BRANDY

Hello I’m Brandy. I am an 8 year old golden cocker spaniel. Everyone at FAR is always telling me how cute I am, so I like to play up to that and run around with my teddy bear, wagging my bum and showing off my beauty! Most of the time I like to be friendly but sometimes I lose my temper. To explain myself – I’m quite a stubborn fella so I don’t like to be told what to do. I enjoy my personal space so would like to live in a quiet home with someone who is experienced with my breed – as I am told I am a typical golden cocker! Do you think you could offer me the home I dream about? Someone who will love me and not send me away again. Someone who will not crowd me too much. Someone who will call me their friend forever.

xx Love Brandy xx

Aww, I hope he gets reserved quickly. With the right home he would be a smashing little chap by the sounds of it.

Oh that place is so close to me, but I think there would be a personality clash, he sounds too much like Charlie, I hope he finds his home soon.

It's just been on the news that this rescue has been raided this morning by Special Branch as part of the campaign against Animal Rights activists.  Hope this feller and all the other animals there are OK.

Oh, not too far from me.
Nice chilled home here for this guy, just not sure how Betty would react though. I think she suffers from single child syndrome (spoilt brat, same as me :005:)
Not sure if I could manage all that coat either......wonder if he'd be alright at the groomers?

Brandy sounds like he has a very similar temperament to my old boy Brook. If Brook didn't want you to do something, by gosh he would let you know and I would need to muzzle him to pick him up, clean his ears, etc etc. But when he went to the groomers, he was as good as gold (probably because he was terrified!!) and they were able to do him without a muzzle after a couple fo sessions. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it

They make liars out of us dont they >:(
Betty did just that to me last week with a behaviorist, good as gold, couldnt believe it

With regards to his type of coat (Bettys is mega fine), what does the day to day care of it involve, as Bettys just has a good brush through with a slicker every few days, and I take her to the groomers every 10 weeks for all the trimming bits.
Just want to make sure I have the time to take on all the extra stuff involved before I think about phoning up about beautiful Brandy

With Brook, I just brushed his coat through with a slicker every other day and got him clipped off every 8 weeks or so. He never got matted so this was sufficient

Binnie, my old cocker's coat turned like this in middle age.  It was actually much easier to look after than her previously flowing locks.  As Gill says, it was just a case of a quick brush through each day and a regular - and not too picky - clippering.  It never matted and, weirdly, never seemed to moult although her pre-neutering coat had shed like crazy.  Shouldn't think you'll find it any problem at all although I can't answer for young Brandy's manners while being primped! Something to definitely ask at Freshfields!
