Cocker Spaniel wanted for elderly couple
« on: January 09, 2008, 06:27:21 PM »
Hope I have placed this in the right section (please move if not) ;)

I have just had a call from an elderly couple (in their 70's) to say that they have just lost thier beloved Cocker. They are heart-broken as you can imagine and want to fill the gap in thier lives that is forming. They are looking for a dog or bitch and one that is older so that it will fit in well with them. They are highly active and have a beautiful home in Devon. Does anyone know of anyone that may be able to help. I have already been in touch with the Cocker rescue.

Thanks Penny, have just been to the RSPCA in Exeter as there is a  2year old there, not suitable for the mature owner...too much energy!!!!
Will post his details now.

Kimbo, your friends might like a bit more info about what's involved in rehoming a puppy-farm brood bitch before committing themselves.  It's not difficult but it does require a bit of thought and patience.  It will certainly not be a straight substitute for their lost loved dog though it's really rewarding.  There are plenty of us on here who have done it - Jeeves, Mary P, and me amongst others. I am sure we would all be really happy to help if you want to follow it up.  :-*

Thanks Annie G for your comment.
You are absolutely right about taking on an ex breeding bitch who has never lived in a home before. Its not as straight forward well done for all you that have it takes a special type of person to take on a rescue dog that hasnt had the best "normal" start. I dont think that the elderly couple would be able to deal with what it envolves. I did phone Many Tears though and had a chat with the lady there. Its such a shame...I hope that Tina finds a forever home soon.
