Title: Ollie - I am so worried- update
Post by: Jaysmumagain on March 25, 2019, 06:18:32 PM
Ollie went for his groomer today as a curly cocker - when I picked him up she pointed out a large swelling above and under his anal area to one side, I was horrified.  He show no signs of being ill, eating drinking doing his wees and poos as normal, as mad as ever.

Just got back from the vet and it 's all up in the air not sure what dealing with, took sample to send to lab and suggested when back would need to see the senior vet, she will phone me Wed am....so am just praying, she said that surgery was a risk in that area he is 11 and I am so afraid - so sorry to but this on you all but he is such a knowing boy and i can't let him see me crying.
he has gobbled his dinner and sleeping his tea off - all as usual

Oh my goodness, that was a real fright for you, what a worry.  On a positive note, Ollie is happy and mad as ever, eating, drinking and everything else is working as it should.  No comfort to you I know.  Sending positive thoughts for Ollie  and  :bigarmhug: for you.

Thank you for all your positive thoughts, am still in the dark, I was told the results would be back yesterday and then told it would be today.
Having been told all sorts of things on Monday  including a promise that senior vet would phone me yesterday and that she is not in till Friday afternoon - I am left feeling quite uneasy about this vets as a whole, problem is Ollie has only ever seen them for jabs, and it's never the same vet twice.

Ollie is just the same as ever and keeping me on my toes as normal :luv:
So will take each day as it comes .

😔I‘ve been   popping in here all day to see if there was any news! The waiting game is horrible, I do hope they can give you more information tomorrow otherwise its going to be a long weekend for you! I‘ve often found with vets (and doctors) that the juniors do have a tendency to  over rather than under play things, -its easier for them  to break good news when you‘re prepared for bad than the other way round. Its quite possible that the swelling is indeed nothing that can‘t be dealt with.
Keeping everything crossed and sending out good vibes!!

Well not good - we are to see the senior vet on Monday, the result was not what they expected, and it is still not clear- it has shown sinister cells but not anal gland as thought - it is something which will need further investigation.  I asked twice about the cells found and its sounded like epidermal/epidermis cells.

It will be a long weekend, but Ollie is showing the swelling - but is just his normal self bouncy and happy.

I will stay strong for my boy....he is so knowing of me - so can't let my emotion show.

Thank you all for being here.

His master walk is calling

Thank you - feeling so apprehensive - trying to keep calm and positive seeing two vets later this morning.  Ollie is so well in his self - hard to believe there is anything amiss.

Well - it is not the worst.....thank you all for the positive thoughts.

Ollie is to have surgery on Wed this week, he has a perineal hernia which has pushed through the pelvic floor hence the large swelling.  The senior vet was so reassuring regarding the possible risk etc,  and says she comes across it 4-5 times a year. She said if the bladder pushes through it would be a bigger problem. She will do the surgery herself.  The abnormal cells are from the fact the young vet went a bit deep with one of the samples she took and got cells from the bladder.  Her thoughts were it was bad hence her wanting Ollie to see the main vet.

So I have to be positive for Wednesday and the operation.

Phew!  You must be relieved but scared too, with an op approaching.  But good news that it is a fixable problem and not the dreaded news we were all worrying about.  Give your boy a cuddle from me, I am sure he is getting extra cudles anyway, so he won't notice another one!   :luv:

Ollie is home and letting us know about the harrowing day he has had :luv:

He has had the hernia repaired and the pelvic area stitched inside so as to prevent any further recurrence and his  "bits" removed. Also several teeth removed.

We now have to keep him still so as to let both the inside and outside stitches do there job.  Easier said than done with a cocker spaniel -still OH is on leave so an extra pair of hands till next week

Ollie sends his love and thanks for your positive thoughts and cocker hugs......he asks can anyone get rid on the lampshade on his head.....it's not lightening up his world!!!

Well done Ollie  :luv: brave boy.  Didn't know both ends were under attack!!  :o No wonder you are voicing your displeasure!  What about a comfy collar, would that be an alternative to the lampshade?  Gentle cuddles being sent to Ollie.  :luv: :luv:

Welcome home Ollie!

Under most circumstances, three for the price of one would be fantastic, but I reckon Ollie doesn’t see it that way!.

When our Alfie has his op at his back end we persevered with the collar and he soon accepted it...just make sure you give his ears lots of scratches...that kept Alfie sane!

Phew, that's great news.  Glad Ollie is home and all fixed.  :D

Coco wears a babygro from the charity shop when she has anything done.  Much better than a cone of shame.  I find 18mths fits her.  Get one with fastenings up the front and you can have the opening along his back and cut holes where needed.

Hope he makes a speedy recovery.
