Swollen and hard boobies plus diaorhea during season

Getting a bit worried about Indie :roll:   Shes got a couple of really hard and swollen boobies :?  and now has the runs which she never normally tends to get :?

Is this normal?

Hi Emma,

All of Piper's boobies are  swollen and the nipples are hard and larger than normal - I just assumed this was normal  :?

She has not had the runs at all though.

Forgot to mention that over the last couple of days we have noticed a rather unpleasant smell  :shock: coming from her.  

I washed her bottom, private benjamins and back legs down yesterday    but the smell was still evident  :?  :cry:

Not sure if this is a 'normal' in season smell or if it could be her anal glands  :?

Have you noticed this with Indie at all?

We had that awful smell with my springer 2 yrs ago when she was in season - from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day, which you can imagine didnt go down very well! Not every bitch produces a smell like this though - my cocker never has (touch wood) during her three seasons thus far  :wink:

Now I also know why Indie had the runs, hubbie had given her a piece of chicken whilst I was out :roll:  he didn't realise that Indie cant stomach chicken :roll:   So panic over

Re the whiff, yeah Indie has that whiff about her too, not overly strong, plus it seems to be dying down a bit now! Whenever someone comes around its Excuse the pong, its the dog

Hi,
When Penny had her first season she had hard and swollen boobies and this also carried on for a while after her 3rd week. I took Penny to the vets and they said it was normal and noted that this was becoming an increasing more common phenomenon. Her boobies did return to normal soon after. She didn't get diarrhoea, but I guess the process is like with us ,it affects us all slightly differently. (but its our normal pattern).

Hi Emma and Piper's Mum,

Millie whiffs too, kinda fishy  :oops:  :shock: so she gets her private benjamins, legs and bum washed every day too .. most un-dignified for her, you should see the look on her face!  
I always worry though, about washing her private benjamins, cos they look so sore!

Her nipples got hard and larger last time, and her bobbies became swollen too - she was like this for probably a month after she had finished bleeding. The vet said it was normal, and that if it lasted much longer (I rang her and the following day they started to go down!) she ought to go in for a check up as she may be having a phantom pregnancy.
It should be noted though, for those who don't know, that all bitches have a 'phantom pregnancy' after their season, this is a natural part of the cycle, we only actually call it a phantom pregnancy if its been going on for a long time and the bitch is showing signs of nesting/nursing etc

Just to echo what everyone else has said..Buttons had really swollen boobies for quite a few weeks after her season  :wink:
And my husband would also like to say that he wants everyone to know that he wants to be credited with the use of the word "Private Benjamins"  :roll:
