Season blues
« on: May 13, 2004, 08:54:49 PM »
In addition to generally not being the happy cocker that she has always been, even during her previous 2 seasons, Daisy has started whimpering and it seems she's in some kind of pain or discomfort. I'm going to call the vet nurse tomorrow to see if I should bring her in anyway, but just wondered - can, and do, bitches in season get period pains like humans do?

Yes, some of them do. My Ada has really bad pains everytime, so our vet gave her some pain killers (Rimadyl, I don't know if you get that in UK )
There's only one, -but that one is a lion

Thanks Katina and Annemie - I hope it is just stomach cramps. We've noticed this evening she's moving funny, kind of arching her back and walking almost sideways, so something isnt right  :(

Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear Daisy is having a tough season :(   If its any consolation Indie has been walking a bit odd too and not wanting to sit down :?   Maybe Daisy is just a bit sensitive down below, may as well get her checked out though, just to be safe :)

Hope shes feeling better soon!

This does happen with some bitches - our Lily gets really bad pains in the middle of her season too & she does the back arching (similar to what a bitch does when having contractions funnily enough). I always give 1/2 an aspirin which seems to calm her down & take away the pain. Hope this is the problem with Daisy & that she'll be ok.

Hi Mike,

I don't know if you remember Buttons had something similar during her season, around the middle. When I got up in the morning she didn't even greet me and seemed extremely subdued  :(  she really wasn't herself and had the arched back that some of the others have mentioned  :?  i could also hear her groaning if I touched her tummy, I followed Jane's advice and gave her half an aspirin. She also seemed to be scrabbling and scratching the carpet alot, which can also be a sign of pain. The next day she was much better so I put it down to  period pains   I hope Daisy gets better soon

Sounds like it's probably season pains then - is just strange that she hasnt had them during her previous 2 seasons. I am going to take her to the vet anyway, just in case (or at least call them, and see what they say). It's a nice sunny day here, so we can sit out in the garden and relax 8)

Thanks everyone, you've been very reassuring :D

Well I'm happy to say she seems much brighter today - and no wincing. Vet said she has elevated ovarian temperature - but no enlargement or swellings, so he prescribed... half an aspirin  Oh well, I needed to get some more frontline anyway... and we have enjoyed a lovely afternoon in the garden too - thanks everyone  :D
