Got this message a few minutes ago.
There seems to be a delay of some 15 - 20 seconds between selecting the page to view and the error message appearing. The progress bar seems to stick half way along the www. cockers online bit when loading the page then either the page loads ok or the error message appears.
Bob.

ive just received this message but it then let me in after a minute and I was using my notepad if that makes a difference
-
5 times tonight around 21:50, gave up in the end :016:
-
There will have been a few errors today, mostly along the lines of
PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ',' or ';'
Nothing to worry about, just me changing some code on the templates. Should be ok now.

Back to the "connection problems" reports tonight. Usual delay before it chucks up the error screen but back on in a couple of minutes.

Still happening on a fairly regular basis. Taken to copying any posts I'm composing for when everything grinds to a halt. The record so far for "Fetching preview" is over seven minutes, then it threw a strop and told me to try later.
Sometimes there seems to be a general slowing down even when there are only about a dozen members online. Then it either clears itself and works perfectly for a while or everything goes pear shaped, the forum page disappears and I'm told to try again later.
Thought the super duper new server was supposed to correct these problems.
Bob.
-
I'm still having the same problem too. Almost every time I go to post a reply it won't do it initially and seems to freeze, then comes up with a connection error message. Once it's done that I can try posting again and it does it immediately!
-
Are there any error messages displayed during these episodes or is it just the forum freezing/hanging?
-
Hi. Couldn't sign in, said something like server error contact cocker forum through an email address. Sorry should have written it down.
-
Ok, if we could get some exact wording or screenshots of any errors that'd be helpful. Have got the server chaps looking into this.
-
I get a white page with this message at the top of the page...
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.
Sometimes it appears immediately but usually appears after the forum page becomes inactive for a time (Freezes).

Same here. I usually get it when I press post to reply to a post. it doesn't seem to make any difference if it's just a one liner or if it's a reply that's taken me ages to compose and type.

Constantly happening when clicking on new posts since last login
Just took about five minutes to clear there.

Some adjustments have been made at the datacentre this morning on our server configuration, these changes may or may not help reduce the number of database connection errors. Will see anyway, as always errors can be reported on the Forum Support board:

Another glitch this evening......
21.41 Previewed a post and got "Fetching preview" for several minutes then..
21.44 A white page with "Connection problems.........try again later"
21.47 Able to get back on to the forum and went to report the problem
21.48 The white page with "Connection problems........try again later"
21.50 Able to get back on and trying to report the problem again
21.52 Trying to post this report....We'll see what happens
21.54 White page again. I'll give it another try
21.57 Giving it another try...
Edit....At the last attempt the whole page froze up, the "Post" button didn't work but, as I was adding another line to the report, it sent the page without the last line.

Couldn't even get on during the early hours this morning.
Hopefully the server was down for maintenance to address the "Connection problems". Everything fine at the moment but only time will tell.

Other than the internal server error on Saturday (which wasn't COL related) have there been any of the other unable to connect to database errors this week so far?
Stuart

There have been a few times when there's been a delay of several seconds before a page loads but so far there have been no more of the "Connection problem" messages here.
