Drops in ears

This may sound silly, but does anyone have any tips on putting drops into their dogs ears. Cooper hates it and what is normally a very passive dog turns into a snarling beast :- despite treats etc.

What are the ear drops for, Angelac? If Cooper has an ear infection, then he probably has a sore ear & it may hurt when you put the drops in. Even so, I'm afraid I wouldn't tolerate any growling or snarling - it will help if you put Cooper on a table/raised surface to administer ear drops as dogs generally feel less confident about misbehaving when they're "up in the air". Be firm with him - make it clear that you won't permit growling & only reward him when the job is done. If you try to bribe him with treats while you are putting the drops in, then you are inadvertently rewarding him for bad behaviour so it's best not to do this.

Thanks for that I will try putting him up a bit higher and seeing if that works. They were to clean his ears out. I think I might try some of the stuff talked about in the forums in future. the powder :)

Good idea - most Cockers are happier with the powder than with a cold liquid squirted down their ears & Thornit is often much more effective than the drops anyway :)

or you can order thornit from
Thornham, Hunstanton,Norfolk PE36 6NB

Thornit is the best thing for their ears.

All my dogs have never minded having it put in their ears.

Don't want to be too personal here, but for the sake of the dogs. If any of mine have to have drops, I warm it slightly for a few minutes by tucking it either inside my bra (I can't believe I've admitted that) or under my armpit (I do wash regularly). Sorry :P but it really does help ;D

You might have a bit of a problem with warming them in your bra Mike! :)

I have to have my say here folks, but only to say i agree completely with other 'posters' in that thornit works wonders. I am only recently converted but theres no going back for me. My girl who had very hairy ears until yesterday  ;) had her usual dose and in less than 24 hours they were no longer red and sore (which they can get from over heating and scratching) they are now all clean and smelling fresh!

Just out of interest how often do you people use it? I tend to only use it when the ears are looking like they need a bit of a clean, then i clean them, clip hair off and put thornit in. Seems to do the trick anyway, no more sore ears in our house  ;D
