Slecting a breeder
« on: March 13, 2004, 07:56:52 PM »
My wife and I live in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Our last cocker spaniel (a brilliant blcack dog named 'Daz) was 'put to sleep' 6 months ago. Daz was a rescued dog and was excellent in every respect. However, we would like to have our next cocker from a puppy - this time a bitch (not for showing or breeding, just for the sheer love of the breed), and preferably a blue roan. However, when we look at the list of breeders the choice is endless, but we really need some reliable recommendations. We would be prepared to travel within the U.K. but don't know if this is necessary i.e. a local breeder of repute might be found. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Hi Daz,

you could try contacting your local Cocker Spaniel Club representative, follow the below link;

http://www.thecockerspanielclub.co.uk/contacts.htm

or try one of the more local clubs, my geography is terrible, so I've pasted the link the the local cocker clubs below for you;

http://www.thecockerspanielclub.co.uk/breedclubs.htm

Have a look at our FAQ section aswell here ;

http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/forum/viewt...opic.php?t=2019

for more advice on selecting / finding a reputable breeder - just because someone is a breed club member, or because they register their cockers with the KC does not necessarily make them a good responsible breeder, although it can be a good starting point :) the above link should help you a bit more.

Personally I don't know many breeders, so I'm afraid I can't help you any further; however maybe one of the others may be able to, they may reply here or send you a PM with contact details on :)

BTW - welcome to the boards, a blue roan bitch eh ? hmm they are lovely, but I could be biased, as we have 2 ! :D
