Nutriment vs Lilly's Kitchen kibble
« on: January 12, 2017, 09:44:01 PM »
Oscar (who is 13 months) has had a bit of a vomiting bug/eaten something nasty which resulted in a very expensive trip to the vets, and given medication. We have fed Oscar Nutriment since we bought him home as that's what the breeder gave us ( and being our first dog we just went with it) and he loves it - it's gone within 15 seconds of me putting the bowl down!

Since Oscar has been sick (literally threw up after breakfast one morning and went down hill from there - not a pretty sight)! He hasn't been interested at all in Nutriment - we fed him plain chicken and rice for a couple of days and then tried the Nutriment but wasn't eating it at all. So I bought the Lilly's kitchen chicken kibble - which he loves!

I can't work out If he is just prefers the Lilly's Kitchen or he's just been put off the Nutriment as he was sick after he ate it?? It's been a week now and he seems pretty much back to normal, we don't mind which one he has really - just we have a freezer full of Nutriment!! Any ideas??

If you are not worried which one he has, why not give him what he wants for now and perhaps for a month, then re-introduce the Nutriment and see how he accepts it. He may be ready to try it again by then.

I agree, give him a bit of time to get over it, and try him again.  He may associate the Nutriment with feeling poorly.
Coincidentally, I fed Blue on Nutriment from being a tiny pup, but he went off it too.  It seemed to coincide with getting a batch which was delayed by the courier for 24 hours, and arrived partially defrosted.  In hindsight, I now suspect it had gone off.  Fortunately for us, Blue just refused to eat it.
He still won't eat Nutriment (I also had a freezer full, which eventually got chucked out!), but he has now settled on Natural Instinct, which is very similar.
If I gave him a choice though, he'd always go for kibble.

I think the advice is right, at the moment he associates being sick after his breakfast and does not want to feel bad again. In a month he may feel different.
