Oh what a start to the New Year, I think Indie's eaten something and got it stuck but have no idea what she has eaten as the the floors are clear, she keeps heaving as though to be sick and making thretching (sp) noises. Have rang the vets and they asked if she was breathing and the answer was obviously yes and to see if she would eat something, I gave her some biscuits whilst on the phone and the vet said it wasn't an emergency and to see them tomorrow if she's still doing it.
If something is stuck, can anyone give me any ideas on how to shift it. I've looked in her mouth but can't see anything and she still keeps making the noises.
Any help appreciated right now as I'm on my own so panicking.
-
We had similar with Harriet and it was a piece of dog kibble stuck in her throat - the vet had to put his fingers right down her throat to dislodge it.
Is Indie still retching?
Not sure what to advise, as I totally panicked and raced to the vet!
Try and stay calm though.... (easier said than done!)
-
PS She won't even move and told the vets that and yes she is still making strange noises.
She was in the bathroom with me when it started whilst I was in the bath so can't think what must have been on the floor in there as its clear.
-
I think I would try getting her to eat something bulky which might push whatever it is down, but to be honest I would be happier getting her to the vet.
I think they will see her (at a price!) if you insist, surely?
Could it be the start of kennel cough? Sorry, I have no experience of that. If it is then manage it at home with tixylix (?sp)
-
Gonna try some lumps of cheese and she usually swallows that whole. Feel like I'm having a panic attack myself
-
I'd phone the vet back, and if they refuse to see you phone a different vet!
They can't expect to leave a dog potentially choking for 24 hours surely!
-
we re going, she cant breath
-
:o i Hope she's ok Jeanette :luv:
-
Bloomin heck Jeanette :o Really hope she is ok! :-*
-
Oh goodness, I hope she is ok :-\
It can be a symptom of kennel cough which is perhaps why the vet didn't deem it as an emergency earlier. What a worry :-\
-
Oh Jeanette, just came on here to see how everyone was and your having an awful start to new year. I guess you have left for the vets, just to say I'm thinking of you and hope you have good news at the vets. S&W

We're back and panic over and £162 lighter on the 1st day of the year. Never been so scared in my all my life.
She had to be sedated for the x-rays so she's all dopey and can't walk now but at least she's OK. Nothing showed up on the x-ray to show her airways were blocked except for a small thing which the vet said things could be cartilage, she said the x-rays show anything solid so unless she's had something soft that got blocked and is not showing up. Why she was sedated, the vet went as far in her throat as she could and there is nothing there.
Indie's all quiet now. Thanks you lot, I panicked and got myself in a state :embarassed: :embarassed:
-
Just read that back, excuse the spelling errors and grammar - typed it quick
-
Thank god she's ok, plenty of cuddles needed and a stiff drink for you, if its appropriate.
-
Well at least she is home and well, hopefully she will be back to her normal self and feeling better when she is less sleepy.
-
Glad she is ok :luv: I would have been in a state like you, big hugs to Indie :-*
-
OMG!!! What a drama to start the New Year on!!
Thank goodness she seems to be ok now, but what a worry for you!!!
-
I've just been upto the bathroom and can't find my hairband which I had on the side of the bath. :o
-
Phew, what a relief, glad it sounds like she's ok. Big hugs to you and Indie S&W x
-
Hope everything has settled Jeanette  What a horrid start to the new year :-\

So maybe she had the hair band? Baja has eaten ear plugs before, would the x-ray not have shown it up?
-
Glad she is ok, hopefully she will be fine by tomorrow. When they frighten the life out of you, you can't not have them checked. Oh just seen your post. I wonder if it is the hairband.
-

Maybe thats the small bit showing up on the x-ray as the hairband is soft except for that small metal bit you get on it  Vet said the x-ray would only show up anything solid stuck which didn't show anything except a small bit she said was probably cartilage.
If that is whats showing, hopefully it will just go down and come out
-
I wonder if it is the hairband.
:shades: If it was, then you should find out in a day or two... ph34r
-
Thanks you lot, what would I do without this site. OH is still up in Hartlepool and not back til tomorrow, he's the one that stays calm in these situations, whereas me, I panic as feel so helpless.

I know they are so quick, normally floors are always clear especially with having Ethan's toys out so he has to have all these in his play room now, thats why I didn't realise what it was as knew there was nothing on the floor, however it must have been the hairband as I can't find it and took it off when I washed my hair and then got in the bath, she must have swiped it off the side of the bath without me seeing.
You need eyes in the back of your head :005:
Its all calm here now, Indie must be so relaxed after being put to sleep as she is laying next to me on the sofa flat out and she keeps pumping and god it stinks, she's never done them before. :005:
-
Gosh you must have been so frightened. Glad she is ok now.
-
Thank good ness Indie is o.k and the panic over....Chris
-
Just seen this, I was panicking until I saw she was alright, so I can't imagine how you must have panicked. So pleased she is alright.
-
Thank you. :D
Bless her, she wet herself whilst she was asleep. Guess that comes from being put to sleep and then having to bring her straight home and she hadn't fully come round.
-
Aww bless her ...how scary for you ((((hugs))) ...hope she will be ok :luv:
-
So glad she is on the mend - what a fright for you both.
Maybe a nice bowl of porridge with goat's milk tomorrow and it'll soothe her wee throat - and help things 'move along' ph34r
Big hugs :luv:
-
Poor babe, hope she feels better soon. It's a nightmare trying to stop them eating things. Paddy ate a full wet one 2 days ago, he found it my neighbours drive and ate it before OH could stop him. I was worried sick and hoped it would pass through him but yesterday afternoon he vomited it back. It had been in his tummy for 24 hours, it's awful to think about.
As for panicking, of course you did, I would have panicked as well. Hope she feels better soon :luv:
-
Seemed to have missed this. So glad she is ok Jeanette. In that situation I defy anybody NOT to panic. Well done for getting her sorted :-*
-
Poor Indie and poor you ::) they really are worse than kids ;) glad you are all ok :-*
-
Hope she's OK tomorrow Jeanette, I guess the medication could make her sick too, hopefully whatever it is will come out one end or the other :-*
Hugs all round and a stiff drink!
-
I hope she is ok and whatever it was comes out tomorrow. Hope you all get some sleep tonight too! :-*
