De-icer warning
« on: December 06, 2012, 09:21:05 PM »
Please give Albert some positive thoughts. I think he has licked some de-icer and am very concerned for him. Have been to the vets and his blood tests were normal but we have to keep an eye on him as he obviously doesn't feel well. He keeps dragging his tummy across the floor and circling around. Feel absolutely terrible as I stupidly left a plastic spray bottle of de icer by the front door earlier, then found Albert snifing around it, it had leaked on the floor. Am so scared

I'm so sorry, how worrying for you.

I hope Albert is much better tomorrow, it sounds positive that his blood tests were ok.

Don't suppose anyone knows how to yet Albert to drink more? The vet told us to get him to drink as much as possible but he keeps turning his nose up at water. Have just managed to get him drink a bit by putting some kibble in his water - he had to drink the water to get to the kibble

My mum got her GSD to drink water by adding a small amount of chicken soup to the bowl of water.... dunno whether that would help?  You obviously need to make sure its very diluted but just giving it a flavour might help  :-\

ETA when I had to get fluids down Maggie I used a syringe and she lapped it as I dribbled it in...

Thanks for all your kind wishes. Have just got him to drink lots by mixing a few porridge oats with water. Albert is sleeping with us tonight, think I will stay awake to keep an eye on him. Just hoping he starts to feel better soon

Somebody posted today on another thread about a dehydrated dog and suggested boiling a couple of raw chicken wings in water then removing the bones and allowing the broth to cool. Maybe you could try that for Albert tomorrow.

Thinking of you all tonight and hoping that Albert is feeling a lot better tomorrow :bigarmhug:

Really hope Albert is better by the morning and that you can get some rest. If still need him to drink more, I heard about pouring tiny bit of milk into the water or feeding ice cubes can help. When murphy wouldn't drink after an operation last year I gave him a tiny bit of chicken stock and that got him drinking again. Sending you both hugs.
