My thoughts are with you.
Our pets are so precious we must give them every chance to survive.  Only you can make the decision, and whatever it is will be the right one.

Our golden retriever suffered from fits and was on medication to stabilise her. After she had gone a certain amount of time (sorry I cant remember how long as I was but a teenager & she was the family dog) the vet weaned her off her medication and she never had a fit again. Fingers crossed Barney can be stabilised and then who knows, he might have the same fairy tale (tail!) ending as Tara did.

Love to you all from me & Cooper xx

Oh I am so so sorry to hear that :'(

Our late Westie began to seize in March this year (once a week or so, and they weren't bad really. As time went on he Seized every two-three weeks or so and the time frame was less and less and he recovered much quicker). He passed away of old age (16 years) in Aug. I'm glad we didn't PTS him in March as we had another wonderful 5 months with him.

Keep fighting. And, it may sound silly to some, but do some Preying. I did.

Let us know how he gets on.

Thank you all. I'm going to see Barney at the vets this morning and hopefully I will see an improvemnet in him. Barney is such a fighter I really believe he wants to survive and I have to give him that chance. MY other problem is my son has been struggling with mental illness and was suffering from severe depression as a result. He has been slowly improving and he adores Barney. He is the one at home with him all day. If we lose Barney that could also set my son back.

Well my boy is home lying on the sofa beside me snoring loudly and farting quietly.  :005:
I know he is not 100% back  to normal but he is certainly getting there.
This morning when I went to the vets they tried again to persude me that I should have him PTS.
I have told them that if and when he gets to the point that I feel it is too much for him I will let him go peacefully. But today was not the time. When he saw me at the sugery I knelt in fron of him and he sat down placed a paw on my knee, looked right into my eyes and wagged his tail. He was not telling me it was time to let him go. I mentioned "home" to him and he pushed his face into mine and nudged me. I know he wants a chance to fight and I owe him that. I may not have much more time with him but every day is precious to all of us.  :luv: :luv:

I'm so glad you've got your boy back home, he sounds like a real fighter and you're right, you'll know when it's time because he'll tell you. I wish you a very long and happy time remaining with him though  :luv: :luv:

That's brilliant.  I'm so pleased he's back home.

Hasn't the vet offered medication?

Unfortunately Barney has been given a variety of combinations of medication. He doesn't respond to most only potassium bromide and the problem is balancing the dosage that will extend the time between seizures with not giving him so much that he starts having side effects that effect his quality of life.

I echo Nicola's words. I hope Barney has many more comfortable days to come. :-*
