Coco, you can read about it here...

http://www.downlandvets.co.uk/Pages/Clinical/Pages/Pyometra.html

The symptoms are quite vague and not dis-similar to a lot of commonplace things - turned out Misty had gastro-enteritis rather than pyometra. Any time other than just after her season and it probably wouldn't have been taken into consideration as a possible cause of the problem. Hopefully it will turn out to be a similar scenario for Coco.

So sorry to hear Wherry is ill, hoping it isn't too serious.

Take care of yourself - this is all you need on top of the debate with OH over Wherry all week  :'(

We are back. The vet doesn't think it is pyometra now but she has no idea what it is. Wherry is going back in first thing for tests and x-rays. Vet thinks it's something hormonal. Her bits are very not right and she is so quiet, somber, won't move, won't come, trying to hide, doesn't want to be touched, crying (which is unheard of). She doesn't have a temperature and she 'feels' (to touch) ok inside. The vet is perplexed but said she is not in danger. She will do what she can tomorrow.

Vet also thinks that someone may have hurt her  :o  :'(  :'( which is what I said ages ago due to her feet. She thinks a man has hurt her. I can't even think abou tit now as she is in daily contact with so many people.  :'(  :'(  :'(  :'(

Thing is, we are supposed to be going on holiday tomorrow. I don't know what to do. I don't want to leave her but as it isn't 'life threatening surgery' and we booked 'within 28 days of flying' the insurance won't pay so it'll be £1,500 down the drain plus maybe the emergency and other fees from this. It's not about the money but it's a lot of money, the vet fees will not be out of our pocket but it's still not a light thing. If I go i'll be so worried about her though. We should have left and been staying in London tonight.

I don't know what to do.

Glad it doesn't seem to be Pyometra.

What a dilemma re holiday, I guess it depends on trusting those who were to be looking after her to make sure she goes back to the vets and trusting them to make decisions for you.  Only you know whether you can do that

Money isn't everything but it is still a lot to loose if the vet is sure that it isn't life threatening.

Are you going abroad?

If you feel you can trust who your leaving her with then, trust your instincts :shades:
But you may not enjoy the hol worrying about her, dont know what to suggest

Unfortunately only you can make the decision to go or not to go away,  :-\

If you say her condition is not life threatening, if it were me and I had someone who I completely trusted and was wholly confident and comfortable leaving her with then I would go (I think).

When Hurley was a puppy we found out he had to have a serious op just before we went on holiday to the Maldives too. His condition wasnt life threatening and in fact it he wasnt in any obvious pain it was still a difficult decision to make as I had to be confident his charges (my mum!) would do as I said - turns out she decided to ignore every bit of advice I gave her about him anyway!!!!!

You have said yourself that you really need this holiday and that you need to get away but this is isnt an easy decision to make  :-\ :-\ :-*

What does your OH say?

Can you wait and see how she is in the morning before you decide?
