I think this is a cyst. What do you guys think

What should we actually do with them?

Drop them into a container and immerse in neat washing up liquid, shampoo, bleach, or boiling water 

there is some where (I'll have to look for it again) an address where to send the ticks too if you find any for their research

  Just make certain they are dead first, or they will 'walk'  -they are needed for ID, not for breeding  .

Whatever you do with them, try not to accidentally stand on a full one that's fallen off the dog and onto the carpet. I did that once. Big mistake. It made a horrible popping sound and it took me ages to get the blood out of the carpet. Yuk!
